Welcome to Swiss Cottage School, Development and Research Centre. We are a maintained special school in the London Borough of Camden. Our school provision meets the needs of learners with complex layered needs. This includes learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties, Severe Learning Difficulties, Moderate Learning Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Communication Disorders, Sensory Needs, Physical Needs, and/or Social, Emotional Mental Health Needs.

We are a Teaching School, leading an alliance of schools and professional partners who are working collaboratively to promote innovation and research in a range of areas including pedagogy, technology, and teacher training.

Welcome you to Swiss Cottage School, Development and Research Centre, a 2-19 special needs school in the London Borough of Camden. We are committed to providing the best education for our students, passionate about providing them with meaningful learning experiences which promote their development. We focus on holistic development through a flexible curriculum that emphasizes ‘Deep Learning’ by responding to each student’s point of learning. There is a range of expertise throughout this school, from our highly skilled teachers and teaching assistants to a range of teams and leaders. Together, we ensure every child’s needs are met. Our teachers lead their class team through shared goals which are informed by parents, families, NHS Therapists, and the Multi-agency Support Team. We place this vision at the heart of an integrated provision.

We embrace shared responsibility for the wider population of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND). As a designated Teaching School, we work collaboratively with a network of schools and organizations to engage with research and innovation which will enhance approaches to SEND. At the center of this is our commitment to a meaningful partnership with our parents, peers, and professional partners. We look forward to welcoming you to our provision.

Our curriculum at Swiss Cottage is a skill and context-based and encourages active engagement in learning. The curriculum focuses on developing the key skills of communication, cognition, independence, physical development, and self-care, all transferrable skills that equip children and young people for life beyond school.

Our curriculum strives to be responsive to each learner, and build on individual strengths and interests. A rolling plan is in place, which supports a balance of stimulating contexts for learning through different learning experiences, themes, and subjects.
