St Peter and St Paul is a thriving Catholic primary school in the heart of multi-cultural Islington, London. We work hard to deliver outstanding spiritual, moral, and learning success with artistic and intellectual abilities for our diverse range of pupils.

Our code of ethics is firmly rooted in Gospel values and worship, supported by strong leadership and excellent teaching in a vibrant and friendly school. OUR AIMS: "We realize how important it is that our pupils benefit from and contribute to a high caliber Catholic education. We want our children to be happy in their faith and use their social and academic skills to enrich their own lives, their families, and the wider community. To ensure that each child reaches their full potential, we regularly review and evaluate the achievements of our pupils and the school as a whole".

MISSION STATEMENT: "Every child is a unique creation of God. Working closely together, we want to inspire and nurture every child within a happy, secure and stimulating, inclusive environment".

Our Catholic-centered learning environment offers a broad and balanced curriculum where every child can feel secure and confident. We place much emphasis on self-confidence and self-esteem, so we nurture each pupil to become independent learners and always ready to face new challenges. We aim to instill a lifelong genuine love of learning and aspiration for outstanding, personal achievement.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to children from birth to the end of the Reception year. At St Peter and St Paul children can join the Early Years the September after they are three years old and join Reception in the September after their fourth birthday.

St Peter and St Paul Early Years classes provide a happy and secure environment, with consistent routines, where the children can feel safe and explore rich and diverse learning opportunities. We aim to provide a sound foundation for lifelong learning, enabling the children to become increasingly independent and active learners for life.

We look to provide play-based teaching and learning experiences, indoors and outdoors, of the highest quality to excite children about learning and help them to make progress in their skills and knowledge.

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is made up of Prime and Specific learning areas. PRIME AREAS:

• Communication and Language
• Physical Development
• Personal, social, and emotional development

SPECIFIC AREAS:

• Literacy
• Maths
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts and Design

Children begin to learn phonics (sounds) in the Early Years. Once children begin learning sounds, these sounds are used to read and spell words. Children can then see the purpose of learning sounds.

Christ and his teachings are very much at the heart of all we do at St Peter and St Paul. Together with parents and parish, we seek to develop and nurture the Catholic faith of our children and bring them to a fuller understanding and knowledge of Catholic teaching and tradition.

We aim to work in partnership with parents and seek ways in involving them in the religious life of their children by providing opportunities for them to engage in school life.
