Our Mission here at SS John Fisher and Thomas More is to value the uniqueness of every person in our Catholic Christian Community. Realizing that each individual is created in God’s likeness.
We acknowledge our parents/carers as the first educators and appreciate their support and involvement in school life. Daily, we seek to provide opportunities and rich learning experiences to further the development of the whole child. We celebrate the children’s achievements, strive to realize their hopes, encourage them to reach their goals and dream of whom they may become.
Ss John Fisher & Thomas More Catholic Primary School is part of The Wythenshawe Catholic Academy Trust (WCAT). The executive board for the trust delegates most of its responsibilities to the Local Governing Body of the school.
It is the responsibility of the Headteacher to implement the school anti-bullying strategy and to ensure that ALL staff are aware of the school policy and know how to deal with incidents of bullying. The Headteacher reports to the Governing Body about the effectiveness of the antibullying policy at every Governors Meeting. The Headteacher ensures that all children know that bullying is wrong and that it is unacceptable behavior in school. Sanctions will be administered to all bullies as outlined in SS John Fisher and Thomas More‟s Behaviour & Discipline Policy.
As we state in „The Aims of the School‟ we aim to create a happy and caring environment where children can feel safe, secure and be monitored to work hard to achieve their full potential. Our children are encouraged to set high standards for themselves both in work and play and in their developing relationships with staff and each other. Mutual respect and support are vital in creating a growing and active community which truly reflects our Catholic ethos. It is through this Catholic atmosphere that we will encourage the overall development of each child and pray that they will all learn through examples set, to respect and trust every other person with love, kindness, and dignity.
The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” As a Catholic School, we actively promote values, virtues, and ethics that shape our pupils' character and moral perspective, through the teachings of the Church. We are confident that our continued focus on the Gospel Values will give our pupils the necessary awareness of what it means to be a good citizen in Britain today, and embed in them the building blocks of a future successful and productive life.
Democracy is a key to our organization within school. Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our School Council, pupil questionnaires, and circle time, and “the talk team”. The elections of the positions of head boy, head girl, deputy head boy, deputy head girl, and the school House Captains, as well as the pupil parliament, take place each year. Candidates are asked to write and then give a speech as to why they wish to be considered for specific positions. Children and staff then vote for their preferred candidate. These post-holders ensure that the voice of the pupils is heard and listened to throughout the year. Children who hold these positions are actively involved in leading assemblies each week.
The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout regular school days, as well as when dealing with behavior and through school assemblies. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken.
E-safety is an integral part of children’s education in today’s digital world and is embedded in their learning at school. We also want to help our parents and children improve their understanding of e-safety issues so they can learn to use the internet and all digital media safely and securely.
As a parent you’ll know how important the internet is to children – they use it to learn, play, socialize and express themselves. It’s a highly creative place of amazing opportunities. But the technology children use every day can seem a bit daunting and you might worry about the risks your child can face online – such as bullying, contact from strangers, or the possibility of them seeing illegal or inappropriate content.
All governing bodies of maintained schools and maintained nursery schools and the proprietors of academy schools have a legal duty to publish information on their website about the implementation of the governing body‟s or the proprietor's policy for pupils with SEND.
