Mossbourne is the realization of Sir Clive Bourne’s dream to provide the children of Hackney with an outstanding education. Mossbourne is built on a formula of high expectations, doing the simple things right, and the belief that all children can succeed. Mossbourne’s calm working atmosphere creates well-rounded individuals who excel in the arts, on the sporting field, and academically. All learners, regardless of ability, benefit from the innovative and enlightened approaches to teaching and learning within the Academy. Mossbourne has raised educational achievement to the very highest levels. The Academy’s GCSE and A-Level results are consistently outstanding, placing Mossbourne in the top 1% of schools in the country.
As one of the country’s leading academics, it is in the vanguard of school improvement. Working in the local community and within a strong partnership of Hackney schools, Mossbourne will raise aspirations, expectations, and achievement for all students and will continue to make a major contribution to the development of educational excellence in Hackney.
All applications to Mossbourne Community Academy must be made through the Learning Trust. In Year 7 this process begins with parents filling out the Common Application Form which is available online or through your child’s primary school in September / October of Year 6.
We pride ourselves in our ability to understand the needs of every young adult in our care. We recognize the unique strengths and aspirations of all students. We foster both independence and critical thinking skills which can support young adults realize aspirations which may include obtaining places at Oxbridge, one of the Russell Group Universities, or at an international university.
At the Clivebourne Sixth Form, young adults are regularly exposed to experts from a variety of fields, including universities, industries, politics, and the media. Learning goes beyond the classroom and opportunity and confidence are fostered via enrichment programs, links to industry and the arts. The Clivebourne Sixth Form students have unique access to the Mossbourne Rowing Academy, alumni of which have elected to study in the United States of America in previous years. Staff delivers the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) which ensures our students stand out amongst the raft of university applicants year on year. Our Careers Advice and Guidance and our Early Applicants Programmes are strengths and areas which are taken very seriously at the Clivebourne Sixth Form. Support is given by discrete teams of experienced tutors who guide and advise young adults through the UCAS program.
The anti-bullying policy aims to ensure that pupils learn in a supportive, caring, and safe environment without fear of being bullied. Bullying is anti-social behavior and affects everyone it is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. The whole Academy behavior policy aims to reflect the values expressed in the Mission Statement.
The Mossbourne Community Academy Parents’ Association – MCAPA is a committee of parents who meet once a month and volunteer at specific events. Working in partnership with the Academy, we create and support opportunities to involve parents, carers, and pupils in building a stronger school community.
Under the direction of Hackney Learning Trust, we are now moving away from paper applications and promoting the use of the online application form for Free School Meals (FSM) and Pupil Premium ( PP). The online system is easy to use and you will get an instant response as per your eligibility via email.
With Music as our specialism, we invest in the sort of support that lifts our musicians to their highest possible levels: state-of-the-art music suites, recording studios, practice rooms, and an extensive scholarship program. Over 250 young musicians of all ages enjoy subsidized Instrumental Music lessons which supplement the engaging Music curriculum. Performances throughout the year, featuring our School Bands, Samba Bateria, Senior Choir, Key-Stage 3 Chorus, string quartets, smaller bands, and individual performers, take place on and off the premises. Recent highlights include the Lord Mayor’s Show and Leeds Arena with Andrea Bocelli, for example. In recognition of this consistent level of excellence, Mossbourne was recently granted an award by the Mayor of Hackney for Excellence in Music Education.
We are very proud of our two Ofsted reports, both of which judged Mossbourne to be ‘outstanding – in terms of behavior, structure, culture, ICT, parent satisfaction, and, of course, academic achievement, which the second report judged to be ‘amongst the very highest in the country.
It is expected that all students will travel to and from the Academy every day in neat, clean uniform as specified in the Uniform Policy, giving the clear message that our students take pride in belonging to the Academy. Anyone who fails to do so will receive a sanction.
