Here at MCMA, we believe that our focus on high aspirations and expectations is an essential element to ensuring that all our students have the skills that are necessary to go on to lead happy and successful lives.
We encourage respect for ourselves and others and are committed to developing a range of skills both within and beyond the classroom through our broad and balanced curriculum and our additional extra-curricular offer.
Here at MCMA, the ethos of our Academy runs through all that we do and echoes our Academy’s sense of community, the wider responsibility we have to both ourselves and each other, and our collective desire to strive to achieve our best. Here at The Manchester Creative and Media Academy we are committed to our vision and work hard to achieve the very best for all our students, staff, and the wider community. We have enviable facilities, fantastic students, and dedicated staff and we work in partnership with our parents/carers to achieve the very best. We are committed to ensuring that our students leave us with both the qualifications and skills that are required to lead happy and successful lives.
We are also committed to being at the heart of the local community that we serve and we share our excellent facilities. Many in our local community use our enviable sports facilities and we also take part in local initiatives such as ‘Charlestown in Bloom’. We are always looking for ways in which we can engage further with our local community.

Trust in ourselves and each other so that we can achieve our best Our Academy Rewards system is built around our values and these are embedded in all that we strive to achieve. We work together to achieve a strong sense of community within the Academy and our Pastoral system and a strong focus on developing students’ social, moral, spiritual, and cultural skills is woven throughout the curriculum, our extra-curricular offer, form times, and assemblies. We demonstrate strong attitudes to learning that encompass pride in our Academy. We are polite to others at all times, arrive prepared for learning, are punctual, and develop the skills that enable us to remain relentlessly positive as we strive to achieve our very best.
We expect our students to be involved in the decision-making processes of our Academy and have a wide range of student leadership opportunities ranging from being a Student Parliament member to being a Sports Leader. All these opportunities enable our students’ voices to be heard and allow us to work together so that our vision can be achieved.
The Academy is part of The Co-operative Academies Trust, having joined in March 2016. Being a part of the Trust brings many additional opportunities for our pupils, including links to the Co-operative Group. We also work in partnership with other organizations that enhance the experiences that our pupils have. Successful partnerships with The Manchester Metropolitan University and programs such as ‘Researchers in Schools’ enable us to have access to cutting-edge research to inform our teaching. Our partnership with The Manchester United Foundation has brought our pupils a wealth of unique experiences.
Inspectors recently described the Academy as a ‘calm, positive place to be’ with pupils demonstrating ‘positive attitudes to learning.’ Our pupils have achieved a range of awards that reflect their excellent leadership skills. The student council received a ‘highly commended’ Speakers’ Award and the academy a ‘Democracy Award’ this year. Our commitment to our values and those of our sponsor were reflected in the achievement of the Fair Achiever award due to our commitment to Fair Trade.
The MCMA Governing body plays a critical role in providing support and effective challenge to school leadership. By doing this the governing body can play a critical role in the improvement of the Academy. The Governing body of the Academy meets half-termly, however, in between these meetings, sub-committees also meet which focus on other areas of school life.
Our Governors bring different areas of expertise to the academy and are all passionate about the success of the academy and work to secure the academy’s vision of excellence and high aspirations so that all our pupils can achieve excellence in all they do and can go on to lead happy and successful lives.
The Manchester Creative and Media Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and visitors to share this commitment. All external visitors who are meeting with students must have a current, enhanced DBS certificate. External agencies will be asked to provide the academy with the name of the person(s), together with their DBS certificate number and issue date before meeting with students. No visitor will be allowed to meet with a student alone unless we have verification of documentation. All visitors to the academy will be asked to sign in and out. They will be provided with a copy of the MCMA Safeguarding leaflet.
