Founded in 1991, the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech) has become a university paradigm for other technological universities nationwide under the leadership of the former presidents and Dr. Yang Neng-Shu.

YunTech is a flagship technological university with four colleges, the College of Engineering, College of Management, College of Design, and College of Humanities and Applied Sciences. These four colleges account for 20 undergraduate, 26 master, and 12 doctoral programs. The student population is approximately 10,000, 65 percent of whom are undergraduates, and 35 percent post-graduates.

Through the University’s core values of “Sincerity, Honor, Perseverance, and Originality,” YunTech fosters students into professionals who have the knowledge-management ability, are internationally competitive, and place an equal emphasis on humanities and technology. Vision:

  • To become the cradle of cultivating professionals for creative research, knowledge integration as well as global competitiveness in the realm of technology and humanities
  • To incorporate the technological development and the advantageous resources of the University, and become a global leader in the field of research
  • To propel the technology transfer of research results, encourage industry-academic cooperation, and serve as a primary provider of industrial knowledge and technology
  • To develop international academic cooperation and follow the successful experience of globally renowned universities to achieve a high standing among prestigious universities

Suntech offers a comprehensive selection of outcome-based curricula, focuses on effective PDCA management, and aims to hone students’ interdisciplinary skills in academics, leadership, and public service. Furthermore, YunTech encourages students to have exchange programs and be international volunteers to broaden their vision of the world.

YunTech encourages each department to be accredited by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). It has become a successfully internationalized university with seven departments having earned professional accreditations. The AACSB will accredit the College of Management in 2014.

YunTech students are encouraged to participate in at least one international competition before they graduate. In 2013, YunTech students won 29 gold medals, 38 silver, 18 bronze, and four special awards at various national and international competitions, showcasing their world-class competitiveness. For the MOE Teaching Excellence Project, YunTech received the highest funding among all technological universities nationwide.

Nearly 70 percent of the faculty work or industrial research sectors. Due to their outstanding efforts, YunTech ranks first in industry-academia cooperation among all universities in Taiwan. The average annual funding received for industry-academia collaboration is approximately NT$2,000,000 per teacher, the highest nationwide.

Teacher “3+1” Program: YunTech encourages teachers to work or do research in the industrial sector after their third year of teaching on campus to improve their practicum and help upgrade the industry. Based on the University’s traditional and core values, “Sincerity, Honor, Perseverance, and Originality,” YunTech fosters students into professionals who have knowledge management ability, are internationally competitive, and place an equal emphasis on humanities and technology. Academic Development:

  • To offer courses and programs based on YunTech’s educational vision and foster professionals in engineering, management, design, and humanities.
  • To establish research centers and conduct technology-related research to enhance the nation’s technological and cultural standards.
  • To develop its service role as a technological university by providing industrial sectors with opportunities for advanced study and promoting industrial technology service and on-the-job training.
  • To promote YunTech to be recognized worldwide by learning from other countries’ experiences in higher education development and eagerly conducting international collaboration, thus becoming one of the world’s top universities.
