Founded in 1990, the Cornerstone Montessori Prep School (formerly Cornerstone Preparatory School) is sponsored by the Chinese Young Men's Christian Institution (CYMCI). It is registered and inspected by the Ministry of Education as a private school and is a member of the Association of Christian School International (ACSI).
As an academically accelerated school, we encourage our students to study and think beyond their expectations. Using our eclectic approach in employing both the traditional and whole language style of teaching, we provide a strong foundational curriculum with individualized, enriched programs. Our daily core studies are supplemented by music, French, and Mandarin classes, as well as active participation in varsity sports. We specialize in daily English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for our international students.
The mission of the Children's Primary Centre and Cornerstone Preparatory School is to educate students who, for the glory of God, are capable of achieving at or above grade level with reasonable effort in a traditional learning environment that prepares students for higher education while developing and implementing a Christian world view that permeates all of life.
Every student needs to become happy life-long learners. CPS explores all areas of academic study with the individual student in mind. Concentration, repetition and work habits allow students to explore concepts in greater detail. With this added maturity, students have the confidence and independence to explore learning on a number of levels.
Our students develop life skills such as a love for learning, accountability, time management, responsibility, self-motivation, and self-discipline. These are all skills that are required not only at the senior high school level but also at University and during adult life.
Recognizing the urgent need for quality education during this crucial stage of child development, Cornerstone Montessori Prep School, Toronto exposes Preschool, Junior, and Senior Kindergarten students to a wealth of knowledge, hands on experience, and essential Christian values. Since 1990, our Pre-School Montessori Casa Program has focused on building confident, well-balanced adults, increasing their chances of success in the real world.
Our faith-based, accelerated academic program for pre-schoolers as well as children in Grades 1 to 12 combines the successful Montessori school program with our traditional teaching style to encourage intellectual and personal excellence. Plus, international students can take advantage of our specialized daily English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to get up-to-speed.
When Cornerstone Montessori Prep School, Toronto opened its doors to students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in 1990, its founder Dr. Stephanie Ling had a mission: nurturing and encouraging young minds towards academic and personal excellence. Since then, our academically accelerated Junior and Senior School (and pre-school) has offered a strong foundational and faith-based curriculum with enriched individualized programs. Core studies are supplemented by music, French, and Mandarin classes, as well as active participation in sports. Also, international students can take advantage of our specialized daily English as a Second Language (ESL) class to quickly catch up.
Our Montessori school education is 100% child-centered rather than teacher driven. This means our experienced and dedicated teachers pay close attention to your child's abilities and interests. We use a practical, hands on approach to help students absorb information at his/her own pace and level. We also have a Summer Program that aims to build self-esteem, provide a safe place for children to socialize through participation in sports and other interesting activities, and develop a close relationship with Christ.
Our term examinations (Cumulative Basic Academic tests) are written three times a year and supplemented by weekly testing and review sessions. The report card is discussed at regular parent/teacher interviews to keep you in close touch with your child's progress.
