NUST MISIS today is a dynamic scientific and educational center attracting the best graduates, scientists, and lecturers. The University focuses explicitly on integrating science, education, and innovations and establishing a creative environment for unlocking every student's potential. NUST MISIS intends to strengthen its leadership positions in several areas, including material sciences, metallurgy, and mining, and enormously strengthen its presence in biomaterials, nano-, and IT-technologies.
The University became the winner in Project 5-100 (a program for boosting Russian universities' competitiveness), which kick-started the University modernization, which involves drastic changes in the scientific, research, educational and extracurricular activities. The University has over 30 world-class scientific labs and three engineering centers, which employ the most prominent scientists of Russia and the world. NUST MISIS successfully carries out joint projects with the largest Russian and foreign high-tech companies. The University participates in four large-scale science projects of the MegaScience level: Horizon 2020, MoEDAL, LCD, and SHiP. NUST MISIS tops the list of Project 5-100 universities in terms of the number of engineering and materials science publications in the first quartile journals, according to SNIP.
NUST MISIS has again strengthened its international educational ratings, having taken a 601+ notch in THE World University Rankings and 501–550 notches in the QS World University Rankings. Moreover, 2017 has been the first year for the University to appear on the subject-matter ratings, such as THE, QS, and ARWU — simultaneously in six areas, has taken the world's 31 notches in the QS World University Rankings by the Subject of "Engineering — Mineral&Mining" besides, it joined the TOP-100 in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects by the Subject "Metallurgical Engineering."
With its current Occupational Navigation Programme for attracting talented graduates and students from all over Russia, near- and far abroad countries, NUST MISIS has rolled out the most successful enrolment campaign, which made it the 4th best technical University in Russia in terms of enrolment quality. Students' extracurricular activities in various fields were marked with high state awards. Together with its business partners and leading universities, NUST MISIS is working on multiple joint educational programs. In 2015, NUST MISIS and seven other leading universities of Russia founded the National Open Education Platform. The University comprises nine institutions, four branches — three in Russia and one abroad, and one representation office. NUST MISIS has over 17 000 students.
