BMSTU has 19 departments providing full-time education. University provides postgraduate and doctorate programs and has two affiliated secondary schools. More than 19,000 students study in BMSTU, and specialties cover all ranges of modern machine and instrument building. More than 320 doctors of science (Russian degree higher than Ph.D.) and 2000 candidates of science (similar to Ph.D.) teach and research BMSTU. The main parts of the University are eight scientific and educational divisions. Each of them consists of scientific and educational branches. Several branch departments also exist; they deal with particular fields of industry. They are based on big factories and organizations, situated in Moscow, Moscow suburbs (Reutov, Krasnogorsk, and Korolev), and Kaluga. BMSTU has the unique experience of teaching hard of hearing students since 1934.
Bauman University is one of the three Russian universities (along with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University) that started in 1926 military education. Today military institute carries out training of military officers of 21 specialties. Military specialties are based on civil ones and help to teach high-qualified civil specialists. The institute consists of five military subdepartments (one of them in the Kaluga branch), a civil defense subdepartment, and a military training center. Practical training is carried out in the Dmitrov branch, where military hardware is deployed.

Bauman University — National Technological University – carries research in cutting-edge science and technology areas, basing on eight technological platforms. Thirty-two companies included BMSTU in their innovational programs. Today the University conducts 90 scientific programs in different fields. BMSTU is a Skolkovo founder. Now strategy of the University is to provide human resources for cutting-edge areas of Russian science and technology, in prior economic development directions of the country, such as information and communication systems nanosystems and materials industry power supply and conservation biosystems security and counterterrorism transportation and aerospace systems promising military equipment.
Bauman Moscow State Technical University – one of the oldest Russian engineering schools. The history of the University dates back to March 1, 1830. This day the vocational school "for scientifically advanced skillful masters training" was organized for growing Russian industry by decree of Emperor Nicolas I. In 1867 the school received university status. More than 200 thousand highly skilled specialists were educated in BMSTU. University alumni: the founder of applied cosmonautics S.P. Korolev, great engineer V.G. Shukhov, the first nuclear reactor designer N.A. Dolezal, a unique missile complex creator S.P. Nepobedimy, aircraft designers P.O. Sukhoi and A.N. Tupolev and many other great engineers – Russia's glory. Bauman engineers created the first Russian helicopter, the first aerodynamic tunnel, the first diesel locomotive, the first automated machine-tool line, and many other things forming the human's modern life.
Scientific schools of the University have worldwide fame. The father of Russian aviation N.E. Zhukovsky, the founder of modern bio-physics P.P. Lazarev, the founder of Russian electronic computer engineering S.A. Lebedev worked here. Extensive engineering and scientific centers (MAI, MEI, MSUCE, CIAHD, VIAM, CIAM) were organized based on some departments and laboratories of Bauman University. Our education system - education through science – is well known as the "Russian engineering school method." The base of this system is the advanced study of fundamental sciences and practical vocational training. That is why BMSTU actively collaborates with leading universities of Germany, Italy, China, the USA, France, and other countries.
Being a Russian engineering education leader, Bauman University is included in the government code of precious objects of national cultural heritage. Being a massive center of progressive areas development in science, engineering, and technologies, BMSTU is regarded as National Research University. No doubt, Bauman alumni are highly demanded in innovational development: BMSTU is oriented to the most progressive branches of modern science and trains highly skilled specialists.
