Let us start with one of the School's most important assets: its entrepreneurial and motivated student body such as the Solvay Business Game, the most massive European on-site business game. It gathered 400 students from around the globe and is entirely organized by the students. This event is only one example, amongst many others, that illustrates the importance of having creative and entrepreneurial students in our institution.
But the secret formula of the School is more complicated than that: it involves a strong focus on quantitative skills, a large number of practitioners sharing their expertise with the students, the will to exploit synergies between economics and management disciplines, high-level research activities performed by our full-time faculty.
Two double degrees with universities in France and China will allow selected students to spend one year abroad and graduate with two official diplomas. With the newly created QTEM (Quantitative Techniques for Economics and Management) networked master, initiated by the School, students may carry out two exchange programs over one year in high-quality international institutions. To attract more students from abroad, the School has launched a new series of specialized postgraduate masters. Our flagship master programs now offer the option of completing up to six months of a credited internship abroad.
Over the years, four centers have been created: a multidisciplinary research center focusing on innovation, technology, and education. ECARES specialized in economics and statistics. CEB a research center with expertise in management and multidisciplinary research, and DULBEA focuses mainly on applied microeconomics.
In a nutshell, high-quality stakeholders and a distinct orientation towards innovation and internationalization in our teaching and research services have led to the strong reputation and excellent performance of the Solvay Brussels School, as witnessed by its Financial Times rankings, its research rankings (RePEc), and its EQUIS accreditation.
"The mission of the Solvay Business School is to train men and women who are capable of selecting, initiating, and managing."
By and large, this mission has remained unchanged. But it has now been extended with the creation of the Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management:
'Our mission is to have a decisive and positive impact on how economic and business challenges are addressed. With a strong emphasis on quantitative methods, we produce pioneering research and educate women and men to become true leaders and entrepreneurs in their field.'
"To be a top European school of economics and management integrated into a research-based university, combining a unique blend of scientific rigor, contextual engagement, and problem-solving skills with an ambitious global reach."
Created in 1903 by Ernest Solvay, the famous Belgian chemical industrial of his times, Solvay Brussels School is the faculty of Economics and Management of the Université libre de Bruxelles, one of the largest universities in Belgium.
Ever since, the School has built up a strong tradition of excellence and innovation in Business and Economics learning, fuelled by deep connections within Brussels' international entrepreneurial network. Today, Solvay Brussels School is indisputably the best known and most trusted business school in Belgium by both students and employers.
Our alumni represent a network of more than 20.000 and are present in all sectors of activities in more than 65 countries worldwide. Each year the School, which is EQUIS- and AMBA-accredited, welcomes more than 4.000 students, participating in over 30 programs, including Bachelors, Masters, MBAs, Advanced Masters…
As one of the most prominent universities in Belgium with around 24,000 students every year, the ULB, of which Solvay Brussels School is part, offers a campus with numerous facilities and events accessible to all students: sports, library, medical services, restaurants, concerts, conferences and many other cultural events all through the year.
