Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) is a pioneering science university in Finland, bringing together science and business fields since 1969.
Our international community is composed of approximately 6,000 students and experts engaged in scientific research and academic education.
Clean energy and water, circular economy, and sustainable business are the fundamental questions of humankind to which LUT seeks solutions through technology and business.
Our expertise in energy is reflected in our Green Campus, a unique research and study environment.
LUT has a tradition of strong links with the business community. The Finnish business journal "Talouselämä" has ranked LUT as the best university in business technology cooperation in Finland. We promote business generated by scientific research. This is demonstrated by the university's own investment company Green Campus Innovations, which supports LUT's research-based start-up companies.
We aim to be a forerunner in education by securing international quality labels for our degree programs as a sign of excellence in teaching.
According to an international evaluation, the level of our research is high (source: Research Assessment Exercise, RAE).
Our work supports our values: the courage to succeed, the passion for innovation through science, and the will to build well-being.
We train the next generation of entrepreneurial problem-solvers who have a sense of responsible curiosity and who are willing and able to transform challenges into opportunities, seizing, and shaping the business environment of tomorrow. We use state-of-the-art teaching methods. Our graduates' employment rate tops that of other universities.
We are committed to excellence. This translates into high-quality research with a significant impact and visibility and into successful competition for funding. We work together with the best possible international partners. We recruit the top candidates internationally.
We contribute to providing answers to today's critical societal challenges. We are the first Finnish entrepreneurial university that meets OECD and the European Commission criteria. We are consolidating our position in the world's best universities.
The European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) that assesses business and management education has, for the second time, rewarded Lappeenranta University of Technology's (LUT) Master's Degree in International Marketing Management the renowned EPAS accreditation. The accreditation signifies that LUT provides world-class education in international marketing.
LUT passed the EPAS accreditation now for the second time. The accreditation was first granted to LUT in 2012. The now granted accreditation will be valid for three years.
"Everyone at LUT School of Business and Management is happy to be a part of the EPAS family also in the future. We appreciate this international acknowledgment and the thorough accreditation process that has helped us greatly in achieving a high standard of teaching," says Professor Sami Saarenketo, Dean of LUT School of Business and Management.
The assessment group especially praised LUT's quick ability to respond to the trends of society, a stable research staff with substantial academic accomplishments, integrated teaching with other fields than business, and having ethics, responsibility, and sustainability present on the levels of the university, the academic unit, and degree programs.
The European Foundation for Management Development's (EFMD) accreditation is an acknowledgment for outstanding business degrees. The foundation's purpose is to find the leading degrees of their field on a global scale.
"The accreditation helps us distinguish ourselves in the international education market, build new partnerships and ensure that the education we provide meets the needs of different stakeholders," says Hanna Salojärvi, Academic Director of the MIMM Programme.
EFMD's assessment criteria require a robust international aspect and excellent literary production level, corporate cooperation, and quality management from the degree programs. The elimination occurs in several phases, and only approximately half of those accepted candidates receive the accreditation.
The accreditation process goes through the entire program in detail, from planning its implementation to assessing the outcomes. Typically, the process lasts 2–3 years, and applicants are eliminated in several different phases. The university carries out a critical self-evaluation, after which an international evaluation team visits the university and interviews university personnel and students, alumni, and corporate partners.
All of LUT's degree programs in business and technology undergo an international evaluation. In technology, LUT's Bachelor's and Master's programs in energy technology, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, industrial engineering and management, and environmental technology have obtained an international quality label. Technology and business programs are both evaluated by different accreditation agencies.
LUT's ethical code of conduct describes how the university ensures the university's ethical and responsible conduct and its staff under the power and influence of its decisions.
Responsible behavior refers to social, environmental, and human resources and social responsibility and financial liability concerning all stakeholders of the university and the surrounding community.
The ethical code of conduct intends to ensure a level playing field for all academic community members and a clear basis for action in circumstances where the university and its staff are under particular ethical expectations.
The principles are based on law, national and international regulations, agreements, human and fundamental labor rights, and a high level of social and academic ethics. Besides, the university has its own internal rules that we follow.
We point out that the university's principles are regulated through national legislation and international agreements and high standard and up-to-date academic, social, and business ethics, regardless of other players or on-going everyday practices.
The University Senate is responsible for the verification, updating, and oversight of the principles. The code of conduct applies to all the staff of the university.
