The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) is a state university established on August 16, 2016, under Republic Act 10919 through the amalgamation of the Mindanao University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental and the Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology (MOST) in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. Both campuses are located in Northern Mindanao, the Gateway to Mindanao, which offers a strategic locational advantage for the institution to train and develop students from all the other Mindanao regions.
It has maintained its Level IV Status as State University (Highest Distinction) as adjudged by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). It continues to be one of the 19 leading state universities in the Philippines. USTP's mission is to bring the world of work (industry) into the actual higher education and training of students, offer entrepreneurs the opportunity to maximize their business potentials through a gamut of services from product conceptualization to commercialization, and contribute significantly to the National Development Goals of food security and energy sufficiency through technology solutions.
The University boasts of a 7.3-hectare Cagayan de Oro campus with state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities geared towards providing quality education. With its advanced laboratories and amenities, the conducive and inspiring learning environment complements its excellent academic instruction and boosts students' learning experience. Its Claveria campus boasts of a 101.37-hectare rich agricultural land. USTP's main campus will eventually be located at the institution's 295.14-hectare property in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. The University also has satellite campuses in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, Panaon, and Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental.

The Admissions and Scholarships Office (AdScho) supports the University's overall operation and mission by recruiting and admitting qualified first-year and transfer students in appropriate numbers to maximize the use of the University's resources. Working with the administration also takes charge of administering the different scholarships/financial assistance to deserving but financially challenged students.
USTP has been devoted to seeking partner scholarship sponsors to attain the University's goal of serving and assisting the Filipino students who are intellectually capable but financially handicapped. As part of its continuing mandate and program to serve, the University provides various scholarships and educational assistance/ grants.
Research is one of the primary functions of the University. It serves several purposes: foremost is to produce a cumulative body of verifiable knowledge that enables man to explain, predict, and understand the phenomena of interest to him. Everyone believes that a substantial body of knowledge can be used to improve human conditions.USTP has developed a functional university research program, build-up its human resources and research facilities. Gradually, the Research Division office is developing the critical mass of researchers in the University. More faculty members and graduate students are getting interested in research activities.
Consequently, the number of research outputs from various disciplines has increased significantly. The University was once recognized by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED), Manila, as the Zonal Research Center for Region 10 and CARAGA. In January 2007, the University was a recipient of the CHED award "Best Research Programs" in the Philippines, proving the University's track record in research.
Research Priority Areas in Advance Science for basic and applied research in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, Architecture, and Marine Aquatic ResearchResearches in these fields can be primary or applied, which are the appropriate take-off points for technology innovations and can improve human and environmental conditions. The Engineering and Architecture research foci are on the designs of systems that would increase economic productivity for the regional industries. Research Priority Areas in Environment, Life Science/Biology, Health, Nutrition, Food Safety, and Food SecurityThe researches for these fields contribute to the scientific knowledge base for the environment, food, and health, which focused primarily on applying fundamental principles from chemistry, biology, engineering, and social sciences. Research Priority Areas in Information Technology, Automation, and Control, Material Science, Computer Science, Nanotechnology, etc. This includes Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Electronics and Industrial Technology researches like signal processing, design of automated systems, product development, and enterprise incubation. Research Priority Areas in Education, Policy Studies, Socio-Economics, Demographics, Ethnographic, and Linguistics StudiesResearches focus on the systematic analysis and impact on higher education governance, efficiency, effectiveness, and quality in Philippine Higher Education. Studies include legislative and executive decisions made in order to effect better systems and operations in the bureaucracy. Research Priority Areas that address pressing problems in disaster risks, climate change, gender and development, poverty alleviation, etc. This involves research that infuses innovations necessary to achieve sustainable economic growth that improves competitiveness, expands job opportunities, and reduces society's vulnerability.
