Welcome to St. Johns River State College, and congratulations on taking the first step toward building a better future for yourself, your family, and our community! Earning a college education is one of the most important investments you can make in your future.
Before you await a collegiate journey rich in student life opportunities, and an academic environment equipped to foster your potential, our long-standing reputation for academic excellence is evident throughout our district. For 60 years, SJR State has prepared students like you to enter the university system, advance in their careers, or enter the workforce as trained professionals.
We at SJR State recognize that you are beginning a new chapter in your life and that the foundation for a successful college career requires commitment and support. We pledge to recognize you as an individual. We stand ready to assist you with academic advising, career services, and free tutoring through our Academic Support Centers to help you stay focused and on track.
Since 1958, SJR State has built a solid reputation as a full-service college dedicated to meeting the educational and workforce training needs of its Northeast Florida district. With campuses in Orange Park, Palatka, and St. Augustine, SJR State is truly the community's College, enriching a diverse population of students ranging in age from 16 to 60 and beyond.
SJR State continues its comprehensive educational role by expanding its services and programs while focusing on the Associate in Arts (transfer) degree and more than 30 Associate in Science degrees and certificates. In 2011, the College expanded its mission to include baccalaureate degrees.
The College reserves the right to change any of its policies, courses, regulations, and calendar of events without notice when it is considered in the best interest of the College. In the event, such changes occur, the College will provide notification to students, faculty, and staff via announcements on bulletin boards and in College publications.
All students are responsible for observing all regulations and being aware of the College Catalog, Student Handbook, official announcements posted on bulletin boards, and other applicable documents such as registration forms. College regulations and student standards of conduct, as listed under "Student Rights and Responsibilities", apply to all areas under the jurisdiction of St. Johns River State College, including areas where activities are sponsored by the College and areas where students of the college community are guests. As guests, students will make themselves familiar with any additional regulation of the host institution.
Students with disabilities are welcome at SJR State and are encouraged to contact the Academic Advising office on their campus.
The Academic Advising office houses the disability coordinators. The disability coordinators ensure access to accommodations for those students determined eligible. Students should report to campus disability coordinators at the beginning of each semester if they wish to receive accommodations. Special assistance is available with academic orientation, registration, academic planning, and equipment. Also, specialized services are available to students whose disability prevents them from participating fully in classroom activities. The College provides services relating to student academic success, transportation, and personal services are the student's responsibility.
Students seeking disability accommodations for initial placement testing should notify the campus disability coordinator when scheduling the test that accommodation will be needed. The SJR State Foundation offers numerous scholarships, funded by the contributions of businesses, non-profit entities, and individuals, to students who meet the criteria established by the scholarship donors.
SJR State's private college community is just the right size to help you enjoy the essence of student life and make the most of your college experience! While each campus offers a bookstore, library, and computer lab, there's also a student center when you need a break from the books. Hang out with friends, order a cheeseburger, shoot a game of pool, or sit back with your laptop and access our wireless Internet.
The Honors Program at SJR State offers outstanding and motivated students the opportunity to enhance and foster their individuality, leadership skills, and educational experiences. Career development begins by exploring who you are and the world around you and continues as you choose to enroll in college courses and get involved on your campus and in your community. It can involve talking with your family, friends, advisors, and instructors and obtaining experience volunteering, interning, and working. Use this website as a resource for every step on your journey and know how we may assist you.
Continuing Education extends the College into the community through various non-credit and professional development training programs reaching beyond the traditional offerings of the College. There are no prerequisites or requirements for these classes. Continuing Education classes cannot be used to satisfy the requirements of a degree or certificate program. Registration fees vary for each course, and students may register for one or several courses.
We are excited that you are considering a career in Education and want to help you get on the best path. Students progressing towards a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education will find information about the program's required prerequisite classes and admission requirements.
Students who already have a bachelor's degree or higher and are interested in obtaining a Florida teaching certificate, we encourage you to learn more about our Educator Preparation Institute (EPI), an alternative teacher certification program approved by the Florida Department of Education. Finally, for teachers who currently hold a Florida Professional Teaching Certificate and are looking to take recertification classes, we offer several online education courses for this purpose.
