    Established in 1909, the Naval Postgraduate School has provided outstanding graduate education and research programs for more than 100 years. Before becoming the NPS home, the Hotel Del Monte was one of the most elegant seaside resorts in the world. The NPS Welcome and Historical Center provides static displays and interactive media, offering visitors a greater understanding of the university's historical contributions and its current mission and objectives.

    The Naval Postgraduate School is a graduate university offering masters and doctoral degrees in more than 70 fields of study to the U.S. Armed Forces, DOD civilians, and international partners. The Naval Postgraduate School provides relevant and unique advanced education and research programs to increase the combat effectiveness of commissioned officers of the naval service to enhance the United States' security. In support of the foregoing precedingstain academic excellence, NPS will foster a program of relevant and meritorious thesis and research experiences for NPS students that informs the curricula, supports the Navy's needs, and The Department of Defense builds the intellectual capital of NPS faculty. To support the core Navy mission, NPS's programs are inherently joint, inter-agency, and international.

    The NPS Fact Book is produced annually to provide detailed data, facts, and figures about its students, faculty, staff, and resources. NPS is accredited by the Senior Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a regional collaboration of higher education four-year and graduate institutions. Institutional Research, Reporting, and Analysis (IRRA) aim to increase University effectiveness by providing and promoting information to enhance understanding of the institution.
