DGIST is an Institute of Science and Technology founded by the Korean Government to benefit society by developing and advancing science and engineering. Our innovative and unique curriculum is designed and continuously evolving on the 4C educational philosophies: Creativity, Challenge, Collaboration, and Care, which reflects our hope to see convergence leading talents who challenge frontiers with creativity, a collaborative mindset, and care for others.
DGIST started with a research institution in 2004 and grew into a research-oriented university by opening a graduate program in 2011 and the undergraduate program in March 2014. DGIST focuses its research and education in six areas, called 'MIREBraiN': M for Materials, I for Information & Communication, R for Robotics, E for Energy, B for Brain, and N for New Biology. The pronunciation of MIRE in Korean stands for the word' future,' referring to the nation's future brains and world whom DGIST is seeking to foster.
The world is waiting for excellent individuals with broad, in-depth knowledge and competency in science and technology. Academic development is accelerating, and it is increasingly difficult to predict the future. The knowledge you will obtain at DGIST could become obsolete in just a few years. We might say that we live in a world where we must solve problems that do not have the answer. In this era, DGIST defined its mission as a university to nurture creative individuals who develop new logic to find solutions with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary point of view, pioneers who blaze trails where no one has ever ventured, and responsible leaders who value citizenship to contribute to humanity and change the world to a better place.
DGIST has graduated 96 students from the undergraduate program, 229 from the master's, and 23 from the doctoral program. Our graduates have already begun to impact and are held in high esteem in their various postings. DGIST's goal of nurturing able individuals who can solve complex problems with strength in fundamentals and convergence thinking competencies, and individuals who have open minds and leadership to break out of conventional boundaries, is becoming a reality. You will soon find that this is not an institution where you are expected to follow the paths paved by your senior students. At DGIST, you are expected to be the master of your ship, where you can design your course and future all on your own. Through education at DGIST, you will cultivate convergence research capability, collaboration and communication skills, creative and critical thinking ability. These competencies will become valuable assets in your future when you become trail-blazing pioneers and produce excellent results in your chosen field.
The world is hungry for well-rounded individuals in science and technology who have broad, deep competency, innovative creativity, and the passion for challenging the status quo. We are thirsty for able individuals with strength in fundamentals, pioneers who blaze trails where no one has ever ventured, and inspiring leaders who can collaborate with others to change the world. That is why there are high hopes for our graduates trained in innovative convergence education and research. Although previous DGIST graduates are small in numbers, 228 students from the master's program and 23 students from the doctoral program have already begun to impact. They are held in high esteem in their various postings. This is the select company you are joining today, and as you continue to achieve excellence, your reputation—and that of DGIST—will continue to grow.
