Nizhny Novgorod Polytechnic Institute (NNPI) was founded based on the Warsaw Polytechnic Institute on October 1st, 1917. Nizhny Novgorod Polytechnic Institute got the Technical University's status. It was given a new name of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University by order No. 1133 of the Ministry of science, higher education, and the Russian Federation's technological policy from December 24th, 1992. Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev (NNSTU) is one of the Russian Federation's oldest and most prominent universities.
Nowadays, students from different parts of Russia and worldwide choose NNSTU because they are sure of the quality, relevance, and solemnity of the knowledge they are given here. NNSTU's strategy is to create new educational formats ranging from a remote training system to higher electronic (virtual) systems, coupling NNSTU's education quality criteria with employer quality requirements. The main activity of NNSTU is the preparation of well-qualified specialists for science and industry. The University includes seven institutes. There are 1100 lecturers, 68 % have an academic degree. Over its history, NNSTU produced over 190000 specialists. NNSTU can boast academic achievements having national and international recognition, a wide range of academic and professional programming at the baccalaureate, master, and doctoral levels. The University cooperates with the leading international institutes and enterprises, among which are: Nuclear Power Institute of China, Knorr-Bremse (Hungary), MSC Software GmbH (Germany), LIMO GmbH (Germany), RDW (The Netherlands), etc.
NTU's new hostel, designed for 535 living places (total area of 7200 square meters), is provided with its library, rooms for independent training, and a gym. At NNSTU's well-equipped sports complex, various regional and international competitions and festivals are often carried out. Owing to its favorable location, Nizhny Novgorod has been a significant trading and cultural center for many centuries. Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University is a modern training and research center, one of the largest technical universities of Volga Federal District. The University has more than 1,100 lecturers and 3,300 staff members. There are 1 RAS academician, 3 RAS corresponding members, more than 200 doctors and professors, 700 associate professors, and Ph.D. in Engineering. More than 17,000 students of all forms of learning study at the University. Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University consists of 7 institutes, Dzerzhinsk and Arzamas polytechnic institutes, branches in Vyksa, Pavlovo, Zavolzhye, the training and retraining institute, the postgraduate course, the institution of doctoral candidacy, and the center of foreign students' education. The developed educational and scientific infrastructure is formed at the University. Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University has a close collaboration with industry and research organizations of Nizhny Novgorod, Volga Federal District, and Russia.
The University is actively involved in the implementation of government contractual work to train personnel for defense industries. Each year more than 300 students begin to study at the Technical University in defense enterprises' direction. Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation made Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University the leading institution of higher education in Volga Federal District in terms of information exchange institutions between institutions of higher education and Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in the performance of the state defense order. Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University associates its development with young personnel. Today young scientists are actively involved in all innovative educational and research projects implemented by the University.
