In June 1991, when the rapid reconstruction of the financial and banking system began in Russia, a need to create the International Banking Institute occurred. The Institute created in St. Petersburg was the first particularized educational institution in Russia that organized purposeful training, retraining, and skill improvement of specialists of all commercial banks, stock markets, financial, investment, and other companies. International Banking Institute (IBI) is one of the first nongovernmental universities granted a state license and became a member of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education. Among its founders, there is the European Banking and Financial Services Training Association (EBIT), the most prestigious union of the world banking institutions, Stockholm University, International Academy of Science of Higher School, and several financial institutions, e.g., Bank Saint-Petersburg and VTB North-West.
From the very beginning, International Banking Institute has demonstrated steady growth while developing a diverse range of educational services, including programs of Undergraduate, Bachelor, Master, Executive and Doctoral education. The interactive educational medium with artificial intellect VUECS developed and actively used in IBI provides network support of essential components of the educational process and monitors students' and educators' educational activities in the "computer tutor" mode. The organizational research line in IBI's activity comprises three conferences, including two international and one inter-university conference and the competition of the Institute's chairs for the best organization of research students' work (held since 2004).
The research work of Institute and Lyceum students includes participation in research projects and methodical research work by the Institute's assignment participation in the Prof. V.N. Veniaminov's annual competition of St. Petersburg for the best students' work on economics, control, and informatics in the economic field participation in the competition of grants of the International Academy of Sciences of Higher Education and IBI in Inter-university open competition of sites for the 1st year students (based on IBI ) participation in professionally orientated seminars.
