Riga Graduate School of Law (RGSL) was founded in 1998. Today, it is a top tier law school offering Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral interdisciplinary studies in law, business, finance, policy, international relations, and diplomacy. RGSL offers legal education in English to students from all over the world. Studying at RGSL offers a unique blend of the global and the local. The quality of teaching is at the top international level, while the attention and care given to students are local and individual. Located in the heart of Riga's Art Nouveau District, at the center of the Baltic region, RGSL aims to provide a robust academic education within the context of an ever-changing and interconnected real world.
The two Bachelor programs, launched in 2010, focus on Law and Business or Law and Diplomacy. The Master's programs focus on Law and Finance, European and International Law, with specialized degrees in Public International Law and Human Rights, Transborder Commercial Law, and European Union Law and Policy. Similarly, the Doctoral program, launched in 2013 and offered in partnership with the University of Copenhagen, covers topics in several disciplines and combines research, instruction, and other practical activities to complete doctoral research.
The RGSL faculty represents academic excellence but also practical experience. Our resident and guest faculty members are both academics and practitioners drawn from leading academic institutions throughout the world, from the EU and other international institutions, and major law firms and international companies. The RGSL has become an essential center for hosting events that promote academic and research discourse in the rule of law, democracy, and human rights. Our graduates apply their knowledge of international law through their work in international institutions. Part of those working in the public sector has qualified for administrative posts with the EU Commission, the European Court of Justice, and European Parliament and posts in such international organizations as the World Bank and the United Nations Office. Several former students continue their relationship with RGSL in some other capacity – as lecturers or assistants to professors. A natural step for those who wish to pursue academic careers is to enroll in doctoral studies.
