We want to establish a student-centered higher-level educational institution by organizing education and introducing a standard quality system.
At King Sigismund University, we can help the students achieve their individual goals, meanwhile contribute to the development of the Hungarian economy (the labor force) and follow the current laws and rules that both regulate the work of Hungarian higher education and correspond to the integrational processes within the European Union.
We want to effect such an educational organization and activity that enable the college to cooperate with any other higher educational institution within Hungary and the European Union.
Through its work and services and its firm quality standard, the University aims to create and enhance its clients' legal security and trust (the students, the labor market, and the cooperating institutions).
Our immediate professional goal is to make our work recognized and respected in Hungary and abroad and achieve and maintain a leading market position.
The historical figure whom the college is named after is King Sigismund (Zsigmond) I (1386-1437) of the Luxembourg House. Sigismund I, who was well-known and respected worldwide in the Middle Ages, founded Hungary's second University in Óbuda in 1395, where theology, law, medicine, and liberal arts were taught. As a Hungarian and Czech king and a Roman emperor, Sigismund became a significant advocate for European integration and had an essential role in his time's European diplomacy, thanks to his unique intelligence, personality, and political and cultural orientation.
King Sigismund University, founded in 2000, would like to follow this cultural tradition in the European Union.
In his own time, Sigismund I was a renounced politician in foreign affairs, who convoked and organized the Council of Constance, thus prevented the western church from splitting up, worked as an economic politician to introduce a unified system of weights and measures, and founded the Order of the Dragon, one of the most well-known orders of knighthood of his time.
The years you spend in higher education should be the happiest time of your life. We also want to provide security and protection with the help of the student contract. We make a contract with all our non-subsidized students (or with the government in the case of state-subsidized ones). We layout in detail the conditions of the relationship between the student and the University. We must make clear what to expect from each other and why. This contract is the means to officialize and record the responsibility that we carry for our students, which has made private schools in higher education the best in America and western Europe.
ttersWhen you register, you meet the staff of the Registrar's Office first. Our staff helps you to find your way around higher education, its traditions, and regulations by keeping in touch with you personally as well as electronically. ETR, our Internet-based registry system, is like student-generated customer service and electronic school record, which is at your disposal day and night. Your exam results are instantly forwarded to you via e-mail. We are also planning to introduce exam result notification in the form of mobile phone texts if the students demand it.
If you have a problem, feel free to turn to the staff members of the Registrar's Office: they are ready to help you with your registration, different types of student benefits and supports, the acceptance of your previous credits obtained in other higher educational institutions, etc. We offer you the safety of the traditional ways and the freedom of the credit system at the same time and the possibility to choose your form and pace of study according to your individual needs, within the framework of the University's academic curricula. You can also defer your studies if need be.
A large number of our teachers, among whom there are senior and emeritus professors as well as more and more young Ph.D.'s, have academic degrees. Several of our students have been successful at national student research conferences and contests. The repeated invitation from the European Parliament is a sign of our school's international recognition.
Almost unbelievable but still valid: since the University's foundation, no classes have had to be canceled because of a lack of professional substitution or prompt make-up. In short, King Sigismund University provides quality, reasonable conditions of learning, and freedom of decision and professional thinking.
Our University opened its gates to everyone who wished to study in higher education in 2000, with only three majors at the time.
As the years passed, we managed to multiply our available BA programs and even get the certifications needed to launch MA programs. Apart from those, we have an Erasmus+ mobility program at the University for students, lecturers, and staff alike.
Besides education, we are researching all four of our scientific fields, both in Hungarian and in English. We strongly believe that research and development should have no boundaries.
We aim to respond to the labor-market's national and international challenges by providing useful knowledge to our students, from which they and their future employers can both benefit. We make this goal a reality by providing not only theoretical but practical knowledge they can immediately use.
We wish to create and maintain a knowledge community our students can feel good in. I hope everyone can find a major they would enjoy studying at our University. I can guarantee that we will help to grow your knowledge capital.
There are hardly any University graduates who would still be looking for a job three months after graduation. However, many come back to the Alma Mater after a few years, saying they want to get their postgraduate diploma in the same school. They must know the reason why...
