The flexible approach that we take to our Pre-School classes means that we can arrange times to suit you that your child will spend with us. We amend the cost of these sessions in line with this. Your child will not only benefit from the care and expertise of our teaching staff but also the care and attention of the older children in the school. From the age of two years and six months, your child can join the Tiny Tudors. This is based on the ground floor of the castle, with direct access to a large outside terrace, complete with playhouses and wet play equipment. Specialist teachers work with the children in French, music, drama, and sports starting at Nursery. Just like a building, future learning is based on firm foundations so priority is given to reading, comprehension, writing, and numeracy in the first three years. Once your child reaches the age of four, learning becomes more formally structured, practicing letters, numbers, and engaging in whole-class learning. This approach provides a stepping stone to Reception class and lays strong foundations for their academic and personal future. During your child’s time in the Reception class, they will be encouraged to build concentration, take responsibility for leading the class as it moves about the building, and returning the register as ‘class leader’. We encourage children to borrow a library book each week and aim to instill in your child a love of reading, and a sense of responsibility. By reading to their class teacher every day, we can identify areas where your child might struggle early on, to ensure that your child is given the best support possible throughout their time at Wickham Court. We are proud to boast five acres of secure grounds where children can expend energy and enjoy outdoor learning. When your child is in Nursery, they have access to an enclosed grassed area that is equipped with slides, see-saws, a Wendy House, and other outdoor play equipment. Play is a key tool in the development of social interaction, we are confident that your child will return home happily tired, having used most of their boundless energy during their school day. Throughout your child’s time at Nursery, they will be equipped with the tools to flourish further on in the school. We encourage empathy, kindness, and consideration for other people as well as placing firm foundations for a love of learning, and an enquiring mind. When your child leaves the Nursery, we anticipate that they will have learned to work with a degree of independence, recognize and form letters, and be proficient in handling numbers up to 10. From September 2013 all state primary schools (maintained academy and free) have received extra sports funding through The Primary PE ad Sports Premium as facilitated by the Department of Education. We intend to use the money to help improve the confidence and ability in the delivery of high-quality Physical Education amongst staff in the school as well as promoting active healthy lifestyle choices to pupils. As a school, we feel that this will enable us to have the greatest impact on the pupils and is the most effective and efficient way for the funding to have a long-lasting and positive effect on future learning and physical development. Funding will therefore be targeted towards the following areas: Continued Professional Development for staff via training courses. Adding and improving existing resources for teaching PE and Sport Supporting extra-curricular club provision. Increasing active participation in physical activity and school sport. Providing opportunities for children to compete within Intra and inter sporting competition Continually raising the profile of active healthy lifestyles given the many benefits associated with behavior, attainment, and achievement. The impact of the Sports Premium funding will be measured by: An increase in delivery of high-quality PE lessons as monitored by both Senior Leaders and PE Subject Leader. Understanding and planning the new Primary PE curriculum 2014. Pupils' skills and knowledge. Increased participation within the curricular and extra-curricular provision. Increased links to local clubs, organizations, and other schools Greater links made with other quality-assured, expert external agencies who support positive, active, healthy lifestyles As a good school to move to outstanding, the Governing Body of Wickham Common Primary School held a meeting on 12th June 2014, to discuss the option of converting to an academy. Governors voted unanimously to begin a process of an informed consultation over the status of the school. Compass Academy Trust consists of four Bromley schools nearby judged 'Good' by Ofsted. We work together very closely and we are very proud of our achievements.
