      1. Welcome to South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. Small tutorial groups and individual support are the formulae for success at South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences. Outstanding facilities and a focus on modern and pioneering courses and research embark on a prosperous professional career. Over the last years, South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences has been frequently ranked amongst the leaders in the well-known "University ranking list" produced by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) in conjunction with "DIE ZEIT" weekly newspaper. With 14,000 students registered on 54 Bachelor and Masters courses and eight faculties, South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest of its kind in North-Rhine Westphalia. Despite this, it is a friendly studying environment at its campuses in Hagen, Iserlohn, Meschede, Soest, and Ludenscheid. Professors are always willing to listen, everyone gets involved, and successes are celebrated together. We train qualified specialists and leaders in engineering, natural sciences, information technology, business administration, and agricultural economics. It is not just the kudos that the former institutions enjoyed that makes for successful graduates. A close network with collaborative partners from businesses, associations, and institutions offers positive prospects for a successful start to a professional career and a happy life. Studying is based, now as before, on classic full-time attendance courses. However, we have developed tailor-made forms of study around this for every stage of your training and career. South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences is the contact for industry, agriculture, and trade in many of the latest technology and process sectors. Research and business are successfully linked to each other in joint projects and as business partners for innovative and technological advice. Research, development, and studying here is very application-oriented. We look for technological solutions for tomorrow and beyond working for and with industry. Associated research and (technology) transfer institutes are networked with South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences in computer sciences, information and communication technology, optical technologies, materials science and production engineering, environmental and energy research, sustainable agriculture, as well as bio- and nanotechnology. South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences participates on three platforms of expertise and, consequently, is successful within South Westphalia's economic region and has national and international recognition. In the age of global networking, it is crucial to think and act on an international scale. This is the basis of our teaching and research. International collaboration also provides for work experience overseas, as well as the exchange of lecturers and students. Several courses are taught entirely in English. We take our social research assignments and lectureships very seriously, not just for the economic region of South Westphalia but more so for the people who work, study, and live here.
