Guided by our vision, mission, and values, we are committed to excellence in education that nurtures the intellectual and personal development of our students. Education at QAW embraces an inquiry-based, culturally enriched international curriculum. Our talented teachers go above and beyond to achieve QAW’s vision, encouraging and guiding our students to discover, learn and think creatively. Teachers collaborate and work across subject areas to develop students’ academic skills, inspire inquiry and foster a love for learning. Our students are provided with opportunities to reach their potential and become competent, independent, and responsible individuals who are effective members of the global community. With the support of the Qatar Foundation, our committed Board of Governance, our professional staff of teachers and administrators, we have the expertise to ensure that all our programs are continuously meeting the needs of our students and enhancing their learning experiences. Since the school first opened in 2011, QAW continues to further develop its programs, curriculum, and facilities. We continue to add one grade level every year and hire highly specialized staff to meet the demands of our expansion. We have ambitious plans for the future, yet we never lose sight of what is most important, our students. At the heart of all our planning is student learning. As the QAW community continues to focus on always putting students first, we will be able to fulfill the QAW vision and mission, and our promise to students and their families. Qatar Academy Al Wakra is a private, bilingual, coeducational school that serves its local community by developing students who are critical thinkers, life-long learners, globally-minded responsible citizens that are of the highest academic caliber and grounded in high moral values and cultural integrity. Stallions are the mascot of QAW. The mascot name, “STALLIONS” is an acronym with each letter representing the values that are embodied in QAW students, staff, and community. To achieve our mission of providing the highest possible standards of education that help each student achieve excellence and develop as an independent critical thinker, a lifelong learner, and a responsible citizen, QAW has embedded the teaching, modeling, and practice of “Stallions” values into daily practice. QAW recognizes that all students learn through different modalities and at different rates. Learning Support (LS) services at QAW are designed to address the individual strengths and needs of each child and maximize students’ learning potential. We have Arabic and English speaking staff in the LS department to facilitate the needs of students learning in a dual immersion language program. The LS team provides support in academics, social-emotional development, and health. In addition to providing direct student services, LS staff provides professional development and resources to all staff as well as parents. To reach its vision of providing the highest possible standards of education where students can develop to their full potential to positively impact their community and the world, QAW has implemented the Response to Intervention (RTI) model, which integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems. With RTI, schools identify students at risk for poor learning outcomes, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions and adjust intensity and nature to those interventions depending on a student’s responsiveness, and identify students with learning disabilities or other disabilities.
