  1. Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service. Mount Vernon Nazarene University, established by the Church of the Nazarene, opened its doors in 1968 and served its East Central Region. The University offers liberal arts, professional, and graduate education at its main campus in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and at multiple regional campuses. MVNU’s educational philosophy and purpose are shaped by its Wesleyan-Arminian holiness theological roots, informed by the Bible, focused on Christ-likeness in every aspect of life, and defined by an emphasis on loving God with all of one’s heart, mind, soul, and strength, as well as one’s neighbor are as one’s self. Students are nurtured and empowered through caring relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators challenged to be a devoted disciple of Christ drawn toward the discovery of wisdom and truth in every discipline of study, prepared for leadership in various professions, equipped to be lifelong learners, and sent into the world to live out their faith by offering their hearts and lives in service to God and others.
  2. We are a school of inquiry, innovation, and impact. Grounded in Christian values, we prepare all students to be college-ready, globally competitive, and engaged citizen leaders. Choosing the right School is one of the most important decisions your family will make. As you explore Mount Vernon, we invite you to live out one of our norms by starting with questions. The MV community leans in by giving, caring, and expressing thanks for all that we make possible together. Pioneer Tomorrow provides Mount Vernon students a revolutionary Upper School experience equipping and inspiring them to design a better world. We are creating a leading-edge learning environment full of ideas and energy, a place where all things are possible. Mount Vernon has become an incredible asset in the Sandy Springs community and, more recently, a worldwide leader in innovative education. Through a growing partnership with companies and local businesses, our students learn more, do more, and be more. In turn, companies gain tremendous brand exposure through the partnership reaching Mount Vernon’s 600+ families and the School’s grandparents community, alumni, and friends of the School. Our coaches and academic resource specialists assist students in taking full advantage of every learning experience. Collaborating with parents, teachers, and students to develop appropriate instructional strategies, our teachers monitor students’ progress and provide various support levels as needed. At Mount Vernon, we seek to shape the whole person. Forming close relationships with students, counselors partner with families and faculty to further develop each student — socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and academically. Beginning in ninth grade, our college counselors recognize each student’s unique goals and aspirations. Through group and one-on-one sessions, they spend a significant amount of time crafting an individualized college plan for each student. Understanding the early years lay the foundation for future school success, we foster confident learning by building on your child’s natural passion for imagination, inquiry, and exploration. These years offer opportunities for discovery, exploration, and independence. Introducing abstract ideas to formulate concrete solutions, students are encouraged to express their own stories. We set a new standard for high School. Your child will solve complex problems by analyzing information and being involved in the discussion. Our learning journey blends foundational experiences with innovative practices that inspire and engage each child. Glenn Campus (Grades 7-12) Address: 510 Mt. Vernon Hwy NE, GA Postal Code: 30328
  3. Nearly 50 years ago, in 1965, the pastor of the Christian Reformed Church in Vernon felt that community children needed more Christian nurturing than standard Sunday school programs. Consequently, every Saturday morning additional classes were held. Shortly thereafter a promotional choir of 40 children and a Christian Kindergarten were started. Following the scripture in Proverbs 22:6, the seeds of the vision for a Christian day school in Vernon were planted. Train up a child in the way he should go even when he is old he will not depart from it. Those were pioneer days. It wasn’t just concrete, wood, windows, and doors…it was tremendous collaboration, sweat, laughter, sacrificial giving, and ultimately, faith that constructed VCS. In 1974 several Christian families in the Vernon area were led to act upon the vision given them by God for a complete K – 12 Christian Education for their children. Believing God gives parents the responsibility for educating their children, these parents formed the Vernon Christian School Society. Its objective was to establish a Christian Day School in Vernon to serve as an educational arm of the Christian home. The vision became a reality in 1977 when Vernon Christian School first opened its doors at its present location. Ten years later the school had grown to a student population of 116 students. In 1989 the first Kindergarten was offered at VCS. As the student population grew so did the need for expanding the facilities. We’ve grown up over the years. Several additions and renovations allowed VCS to accommodate a student body from K-Gr 10. Dreams and visions…all representing God’s hand in helping us equip our students for a life of discipleship through excellent education in the Christian community. It is and has been a great and exciting journey.

  6. We are proud of our reputation and very high standards. Mount Vernon Primary School is a very warm place where everyone can meet their true potential. At Mount Vernon, we wish to promote in children a positive attitude to work, self, others, and the environment. We will provide a high-quality service to work in close partnership with you in preparing your child to be a successful learner, confident individual, responsible citizen, and effective contributor. The teaching and support staff are incredibly hard-working and talented professionals. We put children and young people first and greatly value our relationships with them. It is vital that children are happy, safe, and achieving their potential. Throughout the school, we use Oxford Reading Tree for our class readers. In Primary 1, ORT is also used for keyword reading and recognition. In infants, we also use the Jolly program for spelling and grammar. Further up the school, we use Nelson resources for spelling, grammar, and handwriting. We are lucky enough to have Nelson fonts on our PCs. This means we can produce worksheets with the appropriate letter formation. You have probably seen it in homework jotters. The upper school also uses PrimEd for spelling. Throughout the school, we use Heinemann Active Maths. Although it is used in primary 1, the very clever p1 teachers have also made many wonderful resources of their own. These are used in conjunction with Number Zoo. Using these resources, the teachers can take the children through number formation as well as counting and simple adding and taking away. Heinemann Active Maths (HAM) is split into 2 sections: Exploring Number and Beyond Number. Exploring Number covers all addition and subtraction as well as tables and multiplication and division. Beyond Number covers all other aspects of mathematics. This includes money, measure, time, and shape.
