  1. We live in extremely exciting and highly challenging times. It is exciting due to newer and newer technologies being rapidly developed to enrich our lives by improving efficiencies, making our life simpler and more enjoyable. And it is challenging as we are faced with a large number of highly complex and multidisciplinary social, environmental and technical problems. Also, there are complex and dangerous geopolitical situations, information overload, and degradation of moral and ethical values. Under this backdrop, UIT arms its graduates with a set of tools (knowledge and skills) to be able to not only succeed but thrive in the world of today. UIT arms its graduate to solve and make connections between what they have learned and the problems being faced by society. To cope with complex and multidisciplinary problems UIT’s graduates will use the complexity reducing “Design Thinking” methodology along with the knowledge from multidisciplinary teaching. Problem/product-based learning will help them to cope with the rapid changes in technology and reduced product lifecycles. To cope with new technologies that will come their way after graduation they will fall back on learning to learn skills. They will also rely on the ability to critically analyze large amounts of data to come up with innovative solutions and then be able to make rapid decisions as to which solution to use. To succeed in the new world order, they will call upon soft skills (contributes 75-80 % to success) in addition to hard skills (contributes 20-25% to success) including leadership and teamwork, confidence, communication, character building, citizenship, entrepreneurship, and innovation skills. They will be sensitized about the hardships being faced by the underprivileged and the impact of our actions on the environment. This will help them to work towards improving the quality of life of the underserved sections of our society and to try to help arrest environmental degradation. While doing this, they will continue to uphold meritocracy, integrity, transparency, and moral values in the face of degradation all around relying on character-building learning. To be a center of excellence for creating new and useful knowledge and to produce professional leaders who could compete with the best in the world and bring about a paradigm shift in the quality of life of the people of Pakistan. To create new and useful knowledge for solving Pakistan’s and international problems and produce leaders who are technically excellent, socially and environmentally responsible, innovators, professionals, and entrepreneurs who would act as change agents for the betterment of society and Pakistan. Faith, moral uprightness, professional competence, love of humanity and nature, the pursuit of excellence, innovation, integrity, and life-long learning are values to be adopted, practiced, and preached. The physical facilities, environment, culture, and ambiance of UIT are reflections of its vision, mission, and core values. Similarly, the conduct and behavior of its faculty, students, and staff embody these core values and manifest these in their lives. View full university
