Doha English Speaking School (DESS) is one of the oldest British schools in Doha where children aged 3-11 reach their full potential academically and beyond. At DESS we deliver education to our children through the British curriculum, a world-renowned education system that will allow your child to continue their education internationally or into the British education system whether that be secondary education or through a seamless transition back to the UK. With virtually all of our teachers being British trained and facilities and grounds of the highest quality, we have a basis for learning which reminds our students and parents of a traditional British school, whilst still having a strong, multicultural and international feel. The children at DESS achieve academic results which are significantly above those demonstrated in the UK national average statistics and their sporting achievements are outstanding. Our wide range of extracurricular provisions also helps our children to become well-rounded individuals but most importantly our children are happy and confident individuals who are a joy to work with. Students at the end of Year 6 leave DESS well prepared for UK independent schools, grammar schools, and local schools they then go on to attend. We are very proud of our history in Qatar and many of our students keep in touch with us as Alumni which is remarkable for a primary school and a reflection of the fondness they feel for Doha English Speaking School. Our mission at DESS is to: Create a happy, secure, stimulating, and supportive learning environment. Care for the whole child – prepare future citizens. Deliver the National Curriculum for England in a relevant, meaningful, and rigorous way. Offer not-for-profit education. Work in partnership with our community. Welcome innovation. Provide staff with opportunities to enhance and develop professional skills. Doha English Speaking School delivers a British Curriculum (The English National Curriculum) through British qualified teachers. The curriculum is stimulating, broad, and balanced and provides every child with academic, moral, physical, creative, personal, and social development. Children at Doha English Speaking School have many opportunities to contribute to the everyday life of the school in these extra roles and groups available to them. Library Monitors help to develop a sense of pupil ownership of this facility and its resources whilst the school council meets with the Headteacher to discuss ideas for helping to develop a child’s experience of DESS. A Technical Genius is nominated in each class and provides help to other children in Computing whilst our Environmental Group meets every two weeks to tend to the Community Garden and educate the wider school community on environmental matters. We have strong ties with our local community and have a special relationship with the British Embassy who we are sponsored. Many of our UK-qualified teachers have been teaching at DESS for many years and we have strong ties with our Alumni community who hold dear their memories of attending DESS keeping in close contact with us, something which is remarkable for a primary school.
