  2. At Tando Jam, the college was able to promote agricultural education steadily in the province. Thus remarkable accomplishments of the college paved the way for raising the status of the college to the full-fledged university on 1st March 1977, named Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam established under Act of 1977. The broad objectives of establishing Agriculture University, Tando Jam were to sharpen focus on agricultural education, improve quality of learning, promote integrated outlook in the functions of teaching, research, and extension, produce service-oriented graduates and generate appropriate technologies. Pakistan is one of the signatory countries of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The agreements on Agriculture in the context of free trade worldwide have increased the responsibilities of agricultural universities of the country to groom and motivate the youth specializing in different disciplines of agriculture by strengthening their efforts to manifold to face the competition in agriculture trade and services worldwide. The university faculty has to formulate a road map to combat the challenges that our farmers are anticipating under the WTO regime. We are extremely conscious of our role in fulfilling these challenges. Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam has yet to play a constructive, aggressive, and anchor role in the agriculture-based economic development of the province. Local, as well as global access to higher education, has increased the awareness among the potential students to decide on the best-ranked universities in the region for their tertiary education. Resultantly, it is an urgent priority of the universities to gain a better ranking among the competitors. An important component for teachers and students of higher education institutes today is the ability to acquire technical and scientific knowledge along with fast professional growth while remaining satisfied with their educational environment and performing to their best of abilities. A quality educational environment helps teachers and students to gain confidence. Therefore, initiating confidence-building measures at Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam among students and faculty members is going to be a pressing priority for me. "Committed to contributing towards self-sufficiency and sustainability in agriculture to ensure food security by producing trained manpower, conducting problem-oriented research and establishing effective linkages with the stakeholders".

    University of Sindh

Higher education is an indispensable part of today's society. On one hand, universities are invaluable resources for students to prepare for their future on the other they serve as centers of academic, social, cultural, and economic development of a nation. The fundamental principle of a university is to prepare democratic, citizens for an open, inclusive, critical, secular, liberal society, which despite its modern outlook also remains embedded into the golden principles of Islam. Another objective of a university constantly strives to achieve a vigorous capacity for creation and change to foster in learners the ability to pre-empt the future national needs and cater for them by incorporating the advances and discoveries of science and the aesthetic contributions of the human spirit. University should transform society’s value systems, motivations, attitudes, and behaviors. Learning must create and foster scientific research, innovation, invention, and aesthetic creativity to make it a university of disciplinary and trans-disciplinary quality and not merely a body for awarding degrees that are devoid of meaning. We intend to see it as an institution for objective criticism and the search for new channels for a more enlightened future an institution offering new contents for genuine, participative citizenship and for the practice of peace, tolerance, and ethics an institution that will help reduce unacceptable economic and social imbalances and asymmetries, in short, a university to strengthen social, scientific and economic development, freedom, dignity and authentic democracy. If we continue to only reinforce a utilitarian model of higher education we will never attain the above-said dreams and we will be constrained to continue with the traditional concept of a higher education model in its very narrow sense that i.e. merely a ‘training’ school to award paper degrees devoid of wisdom, global responsibilities and care for people. Knowledge means the three-dimensional development of an individual i.e. it should promote learners’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Also, it is the mandate of a university to prepare youth for the available job market, yet it's a greater obligation to produce citizen-leaders who care for the world they inhabit, understand its various problems, strive honestly and devotedly to resolve them and by doing so make this planet a better and happier place to live in. The University of Sindh, the oldest university in the country, was constituted under the University of Sindh Act. No. XVII of 1947 passed by the Legislative Assembly of Sindh. The Act was subsequently revised and modified in 1961 and later. The Act of 1972 under which the University is presently functioning provided for greater autonomy and representation of teachers.
