In 1959, 20 concerned citizens organized a society to start a private school and founded Randolph School. Randolph started its mission with a handful of elementary classes in an antebellum home on Randolph Avenue, the street from which it takes its name. Within a few years, the School relocated to a spacious, 16-acre campus on Drake Avenue. The School's rigorous college preparatory curriculum and successful alumni rapidly became the Huntsville business community's pride. Since those early days, the School has maintained high academic standards in all curricula. Randolph students consistently perform at a high level and excel in academics, the arts, and athletics. After 50 years of success, Randolph opened its second campus on Garth Road. A steering committee of teachers, administrators, trustees, and students implemented a strategic planning process to stay on the path for continued growth and development. Randolph College prepares students to critically and creatively engage the world, live and work honorably, and experience life abundantly. Randolph College is a nationally recognized, private, liberal arts and sciences institution with a career focus in Lynchburg, Virginia. Founded in 1891 as Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Randolph is known for its excellent academic program, diverse, close-knit community, exceptional faculty, rich traditions, and growing NCAA Division III athletics program. The College also offers popular pre-professional programs in engineering, nursing, law, medicine, and veterinary studies. Because strong writing skills are necessary for success both in College and after graduation. Randolph values and evaluates writing beyond the general education level. Faculty assesses all students' writing competence in every course each semester, and all disciplines emphasize quality writing. Each year, exemplary student writing in various disciplines is published in The Jack, the journal of academic writing. There has to be another vegetarian, Spanish-speaking juggler out there somewhere ("Menos Pollo! Más Pelotas!"). The Wildcats are always on the prowl for recruits to our NCAA Division III sports teams, now fielding six men's squads, including basketball, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, track, and field, and cross country, and eight women's teams: basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. Our champion equestrian team is coed and one of the best in the nation. One of our riders won a national championship in 2014. We also have a thing for traditions—some ancient, some extremely silly, all essential. (Note to the Class of 2024: steer clear of the Main Hall stairs' right side. Just trust us.) Our hometown of Lynchburg is a picture postcard college town with 16,000 students and enough tasty restaurants, clubs, movie theaters, and late-night hangouts to keep you busy for four years of Friday nights.
