Queensferry Primary is a two-stream non-denominational school in the heart of the historic town of South Queensferry. Currently, we have 14 primary classes and 2 nursery classes. We are proud to be a central part of the historic community of South Queensferry and have many, many links with the wider community such as through our eco work, links with our Community Police Officer, and through partnerships with other local nurseries, partner providers, and schools. Our school building also hosts clubs and activities such as Brownies and Boys’ Brigade. We also work hard to promote a sense of community within our school. Partly this is done through our house system – all our pupils belong to either Wallace, Bruce, Stewart, or Douglas. We firmly believe that the ethos of our school is central to successful learning and teaching. If children have a sense of belonging, they feel happy and secure and learn more effectively. We work hard to create a positive environment where everyone is valued and equipped with the tools to reach their full potential. We seek to provide a safe, caring environment where all children feel happy, confident, and valued as individuals. One of our major aims is to provide learning opportunities of the highest quality. We recognize the knowledge and skills which each child brings to school and wish to build on these by providing a program of challenging experiences which will meet, as far as is possible, the individual needs of each child. By working together we can ensure that each child is happy in school – happy children learn well. We offer a wide range of sporting and cultural activities and these activities take place in lunch breaks, at the end of the day, on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Currently, we have clubs such as judo, dance, and cheerleading. There is an active Scripture Union group and an after-school recorder group and choir. Queensferry Community High School is a 750-strong six-year comprehensive school offering quality education for young people and adult learners. It also has recreational facilities for use by the community out of school hours. It is one of twenty-three secondary schools run by the City of Edinburgh Council. Standing close to the River Forth, the School has commanding views of both the Rail and Road bridges. The catchment area of the School is extensive and covers the primary schools at Dalmeny, Echlin, Kirkliston, and Queensferry itself. The School was opened by HRH Princess Margaret in 1970, the 900th anniversary of Queen Margaret's arrival at Queensferry. A new recreation wing was added in September 1995, a further extension in 1997 with a total refurbishment of the rest of the School undertaken in 1998. With these modernizations in place, QCHS represents a modern and well-equipped educational institution that is appreciated and utilized by students and the wider community. The school aims to create an atmosphere and learning environment where all are given equal opportunity to develop their skills and abilities in all aspects of life to their full potential. In school, we believe that we should 'counsel and contract' pupils into better behavior rather than the more traditional approach of 'reject and punish'. We want to catch pupils doing well and praise them for it. We also want to promote positive, respectful relationships between pupils and between staff and pupils in school. When things go wrong we try to restore relationships so that learning can continue. Poor behavior or poor choices by young people, however, cannot be inconsequential and a range of staged interventions may be applied. At Queensferry, we want to offer your child the widest possible range of learning experiences and opportunities. In S1 and S2 all pupils follow the Enhanced Curriculum for a double period each week. The Enhanced Curriculum provides pupils with different short courses which they follow for four or five weeks each. These courses have been planned by teachers working in pairs from different areas of the curriculum to give pupils learning experiences and opportunities which go beyond those which can be offered in traditional S2 subjects. Choosing the right school for your child is vitally important. Most parents want a good education for their children but they also want them to be happy and feel safe and secure. At Queensferry CP School we believe we can offer all of these things. We pride ourselves on the broad, balanced, and full education we provide from Foundation Phase through Key Stage 2. The language of the school is English (English Medium – EM) although Welsh is also used as a language of communication. The high standards of teaching and learning are a credit to the hard work of both staff and pupils. As a fully inclusive school, we are also proud of our thriving EAL and Traveller community. Equally, we are also proud of the atmosphere of friendliness and co-operation, which is always evident. Many visitors to the school comment on the warm welcome they receive and the politeness of our pupils. We value our pupils and believe that their time in school should be rewarding and fulfilling. Should you choose to send your child to Queensferry CP School. The school moved to its impressive new site and building in 1995. We currently have 180 pupils on roll. Additional teaching is provided in an attractive hall, library, and a central practical area, which forms a central spine to the layout of the school. All teaching spaces open off this and can be separated or combined by the movement of large sliding screens. Externally, the school has use of a large, well-maintained yard and extensive playing field. Internally, the school has been designed using local bricks and Welsh Oak, and its layout affords a bright interior where lots of daylight and sunshine illuminate spaces, which are varied, informal, and friendly.
