  1. The Bataan Peninsula State University was established under the Republic Act 9403, signed into law on 22nd of March 2007. It is a conglomeration of fair leading higher education institutions in Bataan seeking to contribute to the national and regional development through providing an excellent quality of services in instruction, research, production, and extension. Guided by one Vision of becoming a university of excellence acknowledged in the country and the Asia-Pacific Region, BPSU shall continue to gear toward realizing its mission of providing quality and relevant education to contribute to national and regional development. Before the conversion, BPSU used to have three campuses; two are located in the City of Balanga while the third is situated in Orani. The passage of RA 9403 resulted in expanding BPSU's campuses as the said Act duly integrated the Bataan State College in Dinalupihan and its satellite campus in Abucay (formerly Bataan National Agricultural School). The five campuses of the University have very humble beginnings, and yet they all emerged with glorious histories to be proud of. More empowerment is expected to be bestowed to each campus as their strengths shall be utilized to succeed in the 111 programs and other services of the University. In June 2008, the University made education more accessible to the residents of Bagac and Morong's towns by establishing an extension in the Municipality of Bagac. The extension offers some of the most in-demand courses in the country like BS Entrepreneurship, BS Hotel, Restaurant Management, first two years of Nursing, and General Engineering courses. Contributing to national development has always been the topmost priority of the University; therefore, BPSU relentlessly keeps itself updated on the recent trends to be responsive to the community's present and future demands. At present University has three programs granted with Level 1 Accreditation from AACCUP. Fifty-six (56) programs are scheduled for accreditation from 2008 to 2012. Moreover, the University continues to equip itself with faculty and employees who have remarkable skills and knowledge to uphold academic excellence and maintain its capacity to produce quality graduates. At present, 6 percent of its faculty have Doctorate degrees, and 31 percent have master's degrees. The rest are still working on their post-baccalaureate studies. It is not surprising that enrollment continues to increase over the years as the University has proven its capability to match and even surpass other reputable universities' performance in various competitions and the licensure exams. Other than this, low tuition fee rates and pollution-free and safe environment further encourage the Bataeños and those from other nearby provinces to patronize BPSU. For BPSU, a life without challenges to conquer would be futile as the University always stretches the limit to adapt to the changes and turn trials into opportunities. Even cuts in the budget will not impede BPSU from attaining its goals. Aside from relying on its several IGPs to augment the budget and sustain its programs, the University continues to strengthen and to establish partnerships with local and international agencies that are more than willing to work side by side with BPSU as it continues its journey towards a more dignified future. A leading university in the Philippines recognized for its proactive contribution to Sustainable Development through equitable and inclusive programs and services by 2030. To develop competitive graduates and empowered community members by providing relevant, innovative, and transformative knowledge, research, extension, and production programs and services through progressive enhancement of its human resource capabilities and institutional mechanisms Development Thrusts: Transparency in governance through participatory policy making and development planning Responsive, quality, and relevant academic programs through the attainment of internationally-recognized standards of excellence Unequaled service to stakeholders via facilities and mechanisms upgrading as results of concrete and up to date monitoring and evaluation Sustainable partnership with national and international academic and industrial entities and Transformative research and extension programs through a formidable pool of experts and replicated and functional outputs
  2. The Cape Peninsula University of Technology was established on 1 January 2005, when the Cape Technikon and Peninsula Technikon merged. This merger was part of a national transformation process that transformed the higher education landscape in South Africa. Today, this institution is the only university of technology in the Western Cape. It is the largest university in the region, boasting more than 30 000 students, several campuses and service points, and more than 70 programs. However, the institution has humble beginnings in the Cape Technikon and Peninsula Technikon, dating back to the early 1900s. The Cape Technikon has its roots in the Cape Technical College, which was established in Longmarket Street in 1920. The college's establishment followed more than ten years of petitioning by the community for the consolidation of technical courses offered in various venues in Cape Town. In the late 1960s, this institution changed to a College for Advanced Technical Education and was renamed the Cape College for Advanced Technical Education. However, a decade later, the Technikons Act was promulgated, and in 1976 the institution becomes known as the Cape Technikon and was allowed to offer degree programs. During the apartheid era, all educational institutions were forced to serve a specific race group. The institution offered courses for white students; however, in 1987, the student population's makeup changed after the institution applied for and was granted permission to have the Government's regulation lifted on the quota for black students. The 1990s would usher in a new era for the Cape Technikon. This institution launched its new organizational structure, which featured six faculties, a new corporate identity, and a new vision and mission statement. In 2001 the Boland and Mowbray Education Colleges were incorporated into the Cape Technikon, forming the Faculty of Education at Wellington and Mowbray sites. In 1962 the Peninsula Technical College was established to cater for the steady growth in the number of colored apprentices in a variety of trades. Classes were conducted in Cape Town until the relocation to a site in Bellville in 1967, which today is the central campus of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In the 1970's the institution had its status changed to a College of Advanced Technical Education and was rebranded as the Peninsula Colleges for Advanced Technical Education. However, this name and status change was short-lived, and in 1979, the college was legally established as the Peninsula Technikon. Primarily offering education to people of color during the apartheid era, the institution opened its doors to all races in 1987. The 1990's also ushered in more changes for the institution, which was empowered to offer degree programs. The year 1997 saw restructuring the institution's academic programs into the faculties of Engineering, Business, and Science. During March 2001, the Minister of Education, Kader Asmal, announced the National Plan on Higher Education. This plan saw the merger of various higher education institutions across South Africa and the formation of Universities of Technology. After lengthy processes, which involved the setting up of merger task teams and a renaming process, the Minister in 2003 approved the name, Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In 2005, Cape Peninsula University of Technology was officially launched, and on 1 February 2006, Prof Lineo Vuyisa Mazwi-Tanga was appointed as the first Vice-chancellor of the institution.
