The amount of state funds devoted to community colleges has decreased precipitously over the years, which, in turn, causes community colleges to look to outside sources to fulfill their mission. This is particularly true concerning institutions like Midland College. The Midland College Foundation provides supplemental funding to Midland College programs recommended by the faculty and ultimately approved by the administration. If you and your family are interested in Midland and the Permian Basin's future, you inevitably must be interested in the continuing success of Midland College. We invite you to assist Midland College in fulfilling its mission to Midland and the Permian Basin. The foundation directs significant gift fundraising activities and provides asset management services supporting educational excellence at Midland College in Midland, Texas. We serve donors (individuals, corporations, and organizations) and the College (administrators, faculty, staff, and students). We are responsible for soliciting, receipting, acknowledging, managing endowments and other gifts, and disbursing funds to benefit educational service programs at Midland College. The foundation is a private, nonprofit corporation. Our mission is to: Advanced education through the financial support of Midland College, including all of its departments, by the improvement of its research, teaching, scholarship, and facilities. Receive, hold, manage, and control property, whether real, personal or mixed, acquired by the Corporation by donation, gift, grant, devise bequest, purchase, or other means. Transfer or use all or any part of the corpus or income for the benefit of Midland College by the general or specific purposes stipulated by the donors, grantors, or testators, or, in the absence of such stipulations, for such uses as may be determined by the Board of Directors. Promptly distribute all net income over operating requirements to promote the educational advancement of Midland College. Midland College (MC), also known as "Your College," focuses on providing higher education, community services, and cultural enrichment to the Midland community. MC offers a rich and exciting range of opportunities and services and a quality educational experience that is both affordable and comfortable. Every semester over 5,000 credit students attends MC at approximately one-third the cost of other Texas four-year public institutions. Although MC offers two bachelor degrees, the College's mission remains focused on community college objectives. Courses in the College's academic programs transfer quickly to four-year universities, and MC's career and technical programs provide the skills necessary to enjoy a successful career. The excellent faculty and small student to teacher ratio of 17:1 ensure individualized attention in an environment that fosters student success. Midland School provides a unique college prep boarding school experience to a diverse student body. Through study and work, it teaches the value of a lifetime of learning, self-reliance, simplicity, a responsibility to the community and the environment, and a love for the outdoors. Over 40 college representatives visit and recruit Midland students each fall. Midland students stand out from the pack because of enriched leadership and experiential opportunities supported by our setting, academic, and job programs. Since the 1930s, Midland students have lived their education. What does this mean? It means that learning goes beyond the four walls of a classroom. Some Midland classrooms do not even have four walls! Midland students study technology and install our solar arrays. We grow over half of the school food in our organic garden, and cattle graze on the ranch to provide beef faculty, and their families eat family style with students five nights a week each afternoon. A few students light fires to heat water for our afternoon showers, and everyone helps clean, wash dishes, and do the real work that makes a small community thrive. We know that emphasizing our small community and the importance of each individual’s contribution to it allows us to grow more. We know that the best Midland students stretch and challenge themselves to extraordinary levels of leadership and scholarship. We know that academics are our priority but not our only priority. We know that our students are grounded in the practice while learning to solve a difficult math problem, write a persuasive essay, chop firewood, grow food, do the laundry, or repair a broken gutter. We know that young adults need a clear framework of increasing responsibility and freedom to develop their decision-making skills. We educate one young adult at a time, on a small and personal scale. We ask many of our students in a supportive and highly personalized environment. Seniors lead the Jobs Program, which is more than teaching ninth graders how to push a broom.
