Ishikawa Prefectural University is still a relatively young university nine years since its establishment. Nevertheless, it has already been making considerable achievements on both the educational and research fronts. This is also evident in the university website, which has become even further improved this academic year following its redesign in November last year. It contains information on the teaching staff, including lists of accomplishments reflecting their research activities. Ishikawa Prefectural University consists of a single faculty known as the Faculty of Bioresources and Environmental Sciences. We are conducting education and research to develop applied technology and explore the principle of putting bioresources to use while seeking harmony between people and the environment. The three departments that the faculty is comprised of - Bioproduction Science, Environmental Science, and Food Science - are all grounded in bioscience, biotechnology, or agriculture and enable academic research and student education to be undertaken. Education and research conducted in our Graduate School further enhance the quest for truth in such disciplines and their subsequent practical application, cultivating people capable of contributing to the welfare of humanity. The education, research, and regional contribution of our Graduate School speak for themselves. At Ishikawa Prefectural University, we do not merely inherit conventional knowledge but conduct advanced and specialized education and research. For example, we develop new areas of research by making progress in unique areas of academic research. At the same time, we are always conscious of the growth of specialized areas and developments on the international stage. We conduct advanced and specialized education and research as part of the practicums at our on-site farm. Our university is equipped with comprehensive information processing equipment to nurture advanced expertise, abilities, and skills. Through interaction and collaborations with the local community, we both revitalize education and research and reiterate the importance of local intellectual activities. Furthermore, through cooperation with local companies and the creation of innovative technologies and new industries, we contribute to the local community's sustainable development/economy. Since its establishment in 2000, Ishikawa Prefectural Nursing University (IPNU) has enjoyed an increasing reputation for excellence in education and research activities. It is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology of Japan and is also one of the top national recipients of research funding from the Ministry. In concert with our recent foundation of the Graduate School of Nursing and our long-lasting and unique contributions to the community through various educational programs, we are becoming an outstanding center for the advancement of nursing science. Our University is located near Kanazawa, a historical old city full of traditional and modern cultural treasures. Also surrounded by the abundant natural beauty of the Sea of Japan and highlands that lead to holy Mount Hakusan, the University offers an excellent environment for fruitful academic life, as well as extracurricular activities. This year marks 14 years since Ishikawa Prefectural Nursing University (IPNU), and many qualified nursing personnel has now been sent out into Ishikawa Prefecture. Based on the University's bright, open, and free atmosphere, we place great importance on education that extends each student's personal qualities. Students gain all the necessary skills and knowledge for the nursing profession from the enthusiastic nursing staff. At the same time, we place importance on the foundation of knowledge and skills. Students study a range of meaningful topics from teachers in charge of Health Science who encourage logical thinking, and from teachers in charge of Human Science. The latter teaches the knowledge necessary for objective understanding when helping others. The teaching staff's passion for the students raises their awareness of nursing as a specialist profession. It nurtures feelings of warmth and empathy towards the sick and those in difficult situations. Also, while the University has collaborated with the local community to conduct a range of activities and research projects, it has an exchange program with the University of Washington, U.S.A... It provides support for JICA activities in South American countries. In this way and others, the University provides many opportunities for students for unique and valuable experiences. Through four years of study, students grow into workers who can provide nursing care truly appreciated. We aim for our graduates to become personnel who can be future leaders and contribute to nursing science development.
