  1. Highgate House School was established in 1992 in Repulse Bay for the founders’ children. In 2001, Julie Lam, a founder member, brought the philosophy of Steiner Waldorf education to Hong Kong by introducing some of the basic principles into the school and with additional groups for younger children. Following the set up of a teacher training program, the International Kindergarten Association accredited the school as a Steiner Waldorf Kindergarten in 2003. There is a recognized need amongst child development experts for pre-school education to provide a more age-appropriate curriculum. Children today, particularly in major cities, can be pushed too far beyond their capabilities and this adversely affects healthy development. Stress is often expressed through social and emotional difficulties that halt effective learning. It is a case of “Too Much, Too Soon!” *. On the other hand, research shows that children with well-developed social and emotional skills can learn better in all areas and this is the key to a happier and more successful life. we provide the time and space to be supported with relevant information and the latest insights on early childhood development. We encourage a sharing and exchange of ideas to help integrate the child’s first experience of education as a natural progression from home. Highgate House provides a stable bridge from home to the more formal environment of primary school. We are delighted to offer a library and lounge area for learning and sharing ideas on child development and parenting. We have provided this comfortable workshop space with an open plan kitchen located by the Parent and Baby/Child ‘Blossom Room’ on the ground floor. Parents are welcome to sign up for workshops, for class parent coffee mornings, or book clubs. We also have a private consultation room for appointments with parent relations staff or for counseling sessions as well as one-to-one parent workshops as required. Our team of experienced and enthusiastic staff is dedicated to providing the optimal learning environment for young children. All staff members are carefully chosen. Each has the special qualities needed to nurture and care for children. Each model love, trust, empathy, and peaceful communication. As adults, we are aware that working on our personal development is crucial and meet once a week for educational training sessions as well as gathering for both weekly class and whole school meetings. We value regular and open communication with parents and arrange group parent-teacher sessions to provide more information about the educational philosophy as well as individual consultations. 3. Highgate Primary is a happy and successful two-form entry community school where there is great enthusiasm for learning from pupils and a highly committed and experienced staff team. Adults are referred to by their first name and we have a no-uniform policy. Music, art and whole-school performances, Mandarin, philosophy, and sport are all highly valued and give our children many opportunities to shine. Our curriculum reflects our children’s interests and enables all pupils to achieve standards of which we are extremely proud. At Highgate Primary children succeed because: We are ambitious for every child. We know that consistently great teaching leads to outstanding achievement We know that strong pastoral support can make all the difference. We know that children learn best through positive messages. We are there for our community from birth to secondary. We listen to what children say and allow them to dream. We have also been working with a local artist to produce a set of images that exemplify these statements. We care for our school buildings and grounds. We want to become the best primary school in the world. Our Values: Love learning - We want everyone to enjoy learning and to achieve their best. Inclusive - We want everyone who uses our school to feel involved and included. Supportive - We want everyone involved with our school to feel supported. Green - We want our school to look and be a greener place. Healthy - We want our school to be a healthy place for our minds and our bodies. We aim for all our children to move through school with confidence, good friendships, and happy memories. In the summer term, the school worked closely with Education Consultant to establish a vision for the school for the next five years. This piece of work soon became known as Highgate Primary 2020 Vision. We have also been working with local artist Brigitte Herrod to produce a set of images that exemplify these statements. At Highgate Primary School, we foster a love of learning by delivering an innovative curriculum rich in creativity and academic rigor. From Nursery to Year 6, cross-curricular topics have been created that cover the National Curriculum subjects in a relevant and engaging way. Topics reflect the interest and enjoyment of our children, whilst at the same time providing a high degree of challenge. Our topics have also been created to make full use of the local area. Other recent topics have included Flight, Explorers and Adventurers, and The Circus. We aim to develop all of the children’s unique skills and talents and provide opportunities for everyone to shine. We understand that children learn in different ways and all sorts of environments, so we aim to be learning outside the classroom and outdoors as much as possible. It could be storytelling in the Peace Garden, tree climbing and bug hunting in Highgate Wood, or a trip to the National Gallery. Thinking skills are at the heart of our curriculum. We have recently introduced philosophy sessions in which the class is presented with a different thought-provoking stimulus to encourage discussion. The stimulus could be a book, an object, or an animation. The children are encouraged to think, listen, reflect, express what they think, and respect each other’s opinions. In Reception class, we aim to make sure that children feel settled, confident, and happy coming to school. We also strive to build supportive and positive relationships with children’s families. The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum emphasizes the development of the whole child and it is through strong relationships between home and school that we support the holistic development of the children in our class. PSHE is perhaps the most important part of our curriculum as we support children to acquire the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. As part of a whole-school approach, PSHE education develops the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members, and members of society. The benefits to pupils of such an approach are numerous as PSHE prepares them to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities they will face growing up in such rapidly changing and challenging times. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfill their academic potential. The promotion of pupils’ personal and social development underpins other learning. PSHE education contributes to personal development by helping children and young people to build their identities, confidence, and self-esteem and understand what influences their decisions. Developing self-understanding, empathy, and the ability to work with others helps our pupils to enjoy healthy and productive relationships in all aspects of their lives. Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education.
  4. Welcome to Highgate School. A few prospectus-style words to sum up our aims for our pupils: we want Highgate to be a happy, cohesive community where pupils enjoy life to the full, value their friendships, and achieve balance in their lives. We want them to leave us for places at academically demanding, selecting universities, here or abroad, with the ambition, motivation, skills, and staying-power to study independently and make a success of their studies. We want them to be emotionally and intellectually ready for the world of work: creative problem-solvers rigorous and imaginative thinkers balanced risk-takers team-players and leaders. We want them to enjoy childhood to the full and to have developed and pursued passions, both academic and extra-curricular. We want them to have grown as individuals, conscious of the advantages they have enjoyed and of the opportunities and obligations such advantage brings. We want them to be open-minded and able to challenge prejudice wherever they encounter it. We want them to carry on their learning away from Highgate and regardless of exams. We want them to be successful and employable, but not at the cost of happiness and balance. Since 1565, Highgate School and the London around it have seen many changes. One aspect of the School, however, has always remained constant: we are a charity, and every generation of Cholmeleians has been committed to living up to what that means, to strengthening and building on our charitable foundations. One priority is to ensure that able children who are not Highgate pupils can have stimulating teaching in the rigorous academic subjects that are ultimately required by top universities and employers. Provide a total of seventy-eight pupils across the school with full-fee BURSARIES, most of whom will join us at age eleven, so that children for whom Highgate is the right school can join us, even if financially it would not otherwise be possible for their parents or carers to consider us. Through our links with local primary schools and our carefully targeted communications, we are reaching out to children and their families to make it possible for them to have the life-changing education that will meet their intellectual needs and unlock for them the doors to lifelong opportunities. The academic curriculum at Highgate forms the very core of what the school is about. Of course, we place great value on our co-curricular activities and we are very proud of our pastoral care, but our chief aim is to encourage each pupil to maximize his or her personal and academic potential at every level. Highgate boasts a rich collection of co-curricular offerings. Whether a pupil is interested in playing an instrument or singing in a choir, performing in a drama production, playing a sport, or joining a society or club, there is something for everyone. Each pupil is placed on arrival in Year 9 in one of the twelve Houses. The House is the social and pastoral group within which each will remain throughout their time at Highgate. The house system establishes a basis for lasting friendship and each house has its own distinct identity forged in a varied program of friendly inter-house activities and competitions. Pupils in Year 7 and 8 are placed into a Form Group of around 20-22 pupils under the care of a Form Tutor. Pupils are encouraged to take part in inter-form competitions and activities and to contribute to the weekly assembly and tutorial program. The pastoral care of the pupils and the work of the Form Tutors are overseen by the Head of Lower School, who is supported by a Head of Year 7 and a Head of Year 8. The pastoral teams in Years 7 & 8 aim to ensure that all pupils enjoy a successful transition from the world of primary education to the environment and opportunities of secondary school.
  5. Welcome to Highgate Wood School, a school that values all its members. We are a truly comprehensive school and work hard to ensure that everybody is encouraged to achieve their best. We have incredible students who are at the heart of the school. Highgate Wood School is a very successful, mixed comprehensive school, catering for 1400 students of all abilities and backgrounds aged from eleven to eighteen years old. Our school mission statement is based upon three fundamental commitments, that we as a school: Make a positive difference to our students. Maintain the highest of expectations of our students and ourselves. Inspire self-belief in our students. Our mission statement is not an aim or an aspiration… It is what we know we already do. It is an affirmation of our everyday practice and ethos, and what we believe makes us special as a school. All of our students are encouraged to aim for excellence and to fulfill their potential - academically, socially, and personally. We want them to become successful, confident, and caring adults who will be able to play an active part in society where adaptability, enterprise, perseverance, and consideration for others are increasingly important. Our strong commitment to equality of opportunity and equality of esteem is intended to ensure that all students, regardless of ability, aptitude, or background, can fulfill their potential. We want everyone to feel welcome, safe, and secure in the school and believe that each of us has a valuable contribution to make to the school community and its continued success. Our core values are embodied in the 4Cs - Courtesy, Consideration, Cooperation, and Contribution, the traditional human values of Respect and Honesty, and the values bound up within a Growth Mindset: Perseverance and Hard Work. It is through these values that we bring to life our mission statement: "Making a positive difference to students' achievements and experiences, maintaining the highest expectations and inspiring self-belief." The school seeks to create an environment in which all students can: Achieve their full potential, including the highest standards of academic achievement. Feel valued and value others. Become confident, self-reliant, and caring members of society. Understand themselves and develop a critical awareness of the world in which they live. Work in a learning environment in which they feel safe and secure. Make maximum use of the technology available to assist learning. Have pride in their environment, work hard, behave respectfully and succeed. Student Voice is an important part of Highgate Wood School. We run assemblies to highlight the importance of agreed rules, practices, and behaviors, as well as to highlight the tragedies that occur when the ordinary rule of law breaks down, at a local level with the stories behind the Haringey Riots, or the international level with the tragedy of the Holocaust. Respect is at the core of our school ethos and is modeled by students. Mutual respect is embraced throughout the curriculum from the concept of "fair play" in PE to the student peer mentoring program which promotes mutual respect and support between students across different year groups within the school. We are proud of the diversity of our community and believe Highgate Wood School provides an exceptional environment to equip young people to thrive and be confident within a modern, culturally diverse society. We have developed active international links that have been established through individual departments (including Modern Foreign Languages, Philosophy, and History, PE and Music), and through different year groups (including the sixth form) as well as through our whole-school work for which we have achieved the International Schools Award. Additionally, we strive to support our students to develop into confident, happy, successful young adults who have empathy towards and an understanding of those of different outlooks, beliefs, and faiths, as well as an understanding and appreciation of the importance of equality in terms of race or ethnic identity, religion or belief, gender, sexuality, including gender reassignment, age, and disability as well as an understanding that these qualities are protected in law. Highgate Wood School has a school uniform. Highgate Wood School is a mixed comprehensive school in Crouch End, North London. The school has approximately 1500 students of whom 250 are in the sixth form. Most of our Sixth Form students come from Highgate Wood School but an increasing number of students are joining us from elsewhere. We are a high-performing sixth form, above the national average for achievement. Our 2017 results have maintained our consistently high placing in national data tables.
  6. It is our pleasure to welcome you to the City of London Academy Highgate Hill (COLAHH). The school opened as a mixed, all-ability, non-denominational academy in September 2017, inheriting four cohorts (years 8 to 11) from what was previously, Mount Carmel Catholic Girls College. We aim to provide a world-class education for our students - making them ‘fully-baked individuals. Hence we provide a broad and balanced curriculum tailored to the needs of our students. This includes the opportunity for students to achieve the ‘English Baccalaureate’ (Ebacc). The academy’s sixth form will open in a state-of-the-art building in September 2022. At the City of London Academy Highgate Hill, we believe that all students can thrive in their academic lives and become active contributors to their local, national, and global communities if the right environment is provided. Therefore, we strive to provide a calm and purposeful learning environment underpinned by high expectations across the academy. Students are expected to work hard and show tenacity and commitment towards their studies. We provide opportunities through high-quality teaching and support structures offered by our sponsor: the City of London Corporation, to promote academic, creative, sporting, linguistic and personal achievement: this is ‘the City experience’. As part of our aim to develop student's creative abilities, all students are provided with a free musical instrument: Cello, Flute, Viola, or Violin when they join us in year 7. Students receive free music tuition for the first three years with us. This is sponsored by The Music in Secondary School Trust. Our new Orchestra group has already performed in the Barbican and Goldsmith College. Our overarching vision is to found an academy that will exemplify ‘Outstanding’ secondary practice, evidenced by excellent attainment and progress for all pupils. From the outset, we will want to ensure that the academy is underpinned by shared values and ambitions so that this new member of our educational family can be graded as ‘Outstanding’ within three years. Each of our existing secondary academies provides learning experiences that reflect the characteristics for which the City is known around the world: High expectations, aspirations, excellence, and a belief that all can succeed Contributing creativity, innovation, and enterprise alongside tradition and heritage Developing people who are confident, resilient, compassionate, and democratic Our overarching ethos for the City of London Academy Highgate Hill will be: To develop the potential and character of all students in all global spheres academic, social, cultural, and spiritual To nurture students who are creative, curious, and compassionate into adults who can make a positive and significant contribution to our world To recognize the importance of fostering understanding and respect for other cultures and faiths To promote the importance of developing positive relationships with others, resolving conflict through reconciliation and forgiveness To promote equal opportunities for all The city of London believes that every student is entitled to high-quality academic, creative, sporting, linguistic, and personal development opportunities. Like all City Academies, the new school will draw on the City of London’s unique and exceptional range and quality of resources. Education both influences and reflects the values of our society and the kind of society we want to be. It is therefore important to recognize a set of common aims, values, and purposes that underpin the school curriculum and the work of schools. Learning at COLAHH is an exciting process of explanation, discovery, and achievement. We encourage and guide our students to take responsibility for their work, to become independent learners who ask questions, solve problems and communicate their ideas with confidence and clarity. Our lessons are interactive and practical with an emphasis on teamwork, participation, and enjoyment at every opportunity. We offer a wide and varied curriculum at each Key Stage, backed up by superb facilities throughout the college including our purpose-built design and technology center. All students will follow a two-year program and begin GCSEs in all subjects in year 9. All students will follow the national curriculum unless the academy (in consultation with students and parents) feels they would benefit from not doing so. In line with our sister academy, we aim to raise standards and aspirations through leading by example. In our other Hackney school, The City Academy, Hackney 90% of students reach national standards and above in English and maths at Key Stage 3, the progress we are expecting of our students will be well above the national average. All students will study GCSEs in English, maths, and science, and there will be a wide selection of options across the remaining subjects. The vast majority of students will follow the English Baccalaureate in Key Stage 4. Our GCSE options subjects will include many of those taught throughout Key Stage 3 such as art, music, and technology as well as additional choices including computing, economics, and vocational subjects. In time, the academy will grow to include a vibrant academic Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form will aim to develop young learners into independent, studious, and professional young adults, by insisting on the same core values that characterize the work of the academy as a whole.
  7. We are a hidden gem – an oasis of green in inner London. We are a community that has a special place within Highgate Village. We cherish our happy, creative environment where children want to learn, feel safe, and exceed national expectations in all that they do. We have a unique set of skills and expertise and are incredibly engaged. We deliver a rich and broad school experience. We have a responsibility to ensure every moment for every pupil counts. We have a strong desire to continuously improve all that we do. We place great importance on all of our school community understanding and living by our vision, mission, and values. We believe our children’s future is created every day. Every moment counts.” Our mission: ‘To nurture and inspire our children to develop a love of learning in a supportive Christian community and become the best they can be.’ We provide a creative, challenging curriculum that encourages independent thought, problem-solving, and a love of learning. Like all schools in England, we must follow the national curriculum, but it is the way we do so that sets us apart. We believe a child’s future is created every day and we aim to make every moment count. That is our vision for St Michael’s and it shapes and guides our daily work with the children. In 1852, St. Michael’s opened as a Victorian Farm School with the ambition ‘to create an effective school for the poor’. This was both inspirational and ambitious – children did not have to go to school and many could not afford to do so. The school’s mission was, ‘to render the Boys and Girls generally handy and industrious and they should be employed as much as possible in general work and jobbing in about the schools.’ The school has gone through many changes since then. In April 1972, the new junior building was finished. It was officially opened in June by Margaret Thatcher, then-Secretary of State for Education. The opening was celebrated with a special opera performance. The Junior Hall continues to host many exciting plays, concerts, pantomimes, assemblies, fairs, and workshops. The infant children are still taught in the original buildings, which in 1979 were connected by another new hall. The Infant Hall is dedicated to Richard Grout, a headteacher from 1968-1981, who instigated many of the modern additions to the buildings. More recently, a room devoted to science and technology was created as well as a computing room, Greenroom, and Art room. The Art room is dedicated to Barbara Smith, a headteacher from 1997 until 2009. Plans are underway to convert a former teacher’s living quarters on the school grounds into a dedicated space for music. Thanks to our beginnings as a farm school, we are situated on four acres of land – a unique feature for a London school. This legacy of space left by the pioneers of 1852 gives the children an enviable environment. They are surrounded by fields, trees, gardens, and allotments, which are used daily for outdoor learning, sports, events – and of course, play. At St. Michael’s School, we work within a Christian philosophy and positively promote our Christian ethos. We aim to provide the best possible education to prepare and equip children for life in our multi-faith and multi-cultural world. We wish children to acquire a spirit of inquiry, positive attitudes, and a concern for others, within a caring community. Each child will be actively encouraged to develop his or her capabilities to the full. We will recognize the worth and value of each child and the importance of his or her self-esteem. Protective Behaviours are taught across the school and every child is aware that they have the right to feel safe. They are also taught about freedom of speech and how to propose and oppose a motion in a polite but direct way. Children are valued for their differences and there is a wide variety of extra-curricular clubs to enable children to try new things, develop new skills, and practice existing ones. Care is taken to provide equal opportunities for all genders such as a boys and girls football team. The children write and edit their own School Newspaper which reflects the issues that are important to them. An Anti-Bullying week is held annually and highlighted throughout the year. During these sessions, children are taught to value differences in others and themselves and to respect others. A consistent behavior policy is in place and children take responsibility, with support when needed, to resolve conflict and repair relationships. Friendship benches in the playground allow children to make new friends. Be the Best you can be is part of the PHSE and facilitates children in their journey to achieve their goals through the Olympic and Para-Olympic values, so encouraging children to value themselves and others.

We expect our students to have high aspirations their academic progress and examination success are ensured by top first-rate facilities and challenging targets. Our school motto is Everyone Matters and this ensures that we take an approach that values every student as an individual, with a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities enabling talent and creativity to be identified and nurtured. Most of our Sixth Form students come from Highgate Wood School but an increasing number of students are joining us from elsewhere. We are a high-performing sixth form, above the national average for achievement. Our 2017 results have maintained our consistently high placing in national data tables. View full school
  9. 10. View full school
