At Haley Hey our vision is that we will lay the foundations for a lifelong journey that provides our children with the tools to achieve happy, fulfilling, and successful lives. Haley Hey Community Primary School is a two-form entry school. We have a nursery, two reception classes, and two classes in each year group. In our classrooms, the children have the opportunity to voice their opinions, ask questions and develop confidence and learning skills respectfully and politely. We encourage the children to work as a team and develop mutual respect and trust for each other. Since the introduction of the new National Curriculum (2014), we have worked hard to refresh our school approach and provision for pupils. We work in a cross-curricular way and build on key skills each year to meet the high expectations of this challenging new curriculum. As part of this work, we have decided to implement the Cornerstones Curriculum: a nationally-recognized approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children. As a Trust and admission authority for our schools, we have adopted the Manchester City Council arrangements for community and voluntary controlled schools in Manchester, the LA is required to draft, consult on and determine their admission arrangements. Where there are more applicants than places available the LA will apply the admission arrangements to decide which applicants will be offered places. We rely on the LA consultation process to inform and consult with our parents. All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regardless of where the school/academy they are applying to is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parents/carers in writing of the outcome of their application. The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the 2014 Primary National Curriculum, ensuring comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Our curriculum is delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between all aspects of our children’s learning. We aim to provide children with exciting trips, visits, visitors, and hands-on learning experiences to bring their learning to life, developing their curiosity and encouraging them to be life-long learners. We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Our new curriculum will provide lots of learning challenges throughout the academic year that will require children to independently and collaboratively solve problems, apply themselves creatively, and express their knowledge and understanding effectively across the curriculum. This year in EYFS, we have planned our curriculum around high-quality key texts that the children will become immersed in. We will use Talk 4 Writing to learn the texts and will have lots of opportunities to interact with the text in our play-based learning. Our School policies have been designed to ensure that all adults working at Haveley Hey Community Primary School are working together to promote the well-being of our young people at school. Our policy describes the systems in place to create and promote a safe learning environment. As part of our support for children in school, we have regular opportunities to work with support services and health agencies through a multi-agency approach, and sometimes this could be working with parents to complete an Early Help Assessment. At Haley Hey, we take pride in our relationships with parents. We want to share your children's learning with you and get you involved in school life. We have several different groups including the Parent Focus Group and PTA and are always looking for new, enthusiastic members to join. We successfully achieved the Leading Parent Partnership Award in recognition of our commitment to working with Parents as Partners. in their child's learning journey. Haley Hey’s transition process begins early in Year 5. This provides our students with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Manchester Enterprise Academy and take their first steps in building strong relationships with their fantastic teachers and support staff. Students also take part in the Flying Start event in Year 6 with MEA’s sponsors, Manchester Airport, and many children become regular visitors to MEA when they participate in sports tournaments, whilst working alongside the Manchester United Foundation. MEA also offers a free two-week summer school to support and nature their new Year 7’s and provides extra support in the final move from Year 6 to Year 7. MEA’s transition processes ensure that our Year 6 students start the Academy feeling cared for and ready to excel. From the minute they arrive for their first induction day the students are supported by a dedicated Year 7 team who work closely with parents and carers to make sure they feel involved and informed about their child’s education. To guarantee every child has a flying start they also provide a free uniform to all Year 7 students and have a ‘settling in the evening’ for Year 7 students and their parents and carers in the first half term, so their first steps towards a fantastic future are in place and parents are fully involved and feel part of the transition process. In 2018 we were successful in our accreditation to become a Gold Level Rights Respecting School. The assessors were impressed with our whole school community's commitment to promoting and protecting children's rights. We are one of only a few hundred schools in the country to have this accreditation - along with our partner schools, The Willows and St Marys. As a forward-thinking school, we will continue to make changes to improve the education that we offer our children - but the golden thread that will always run through this will be our continued commitment to children's rights.
