    Hasselt University

Hasselt University's headquarters are in the Old Prison (Oude Gevangenis) on Hasselt Campus. This building on Martelarenlaan in Hasselt is the first place to go when you first enroll al the university and all contacts with the student administration. The student administration's services and student facilities, the study coaches, and the ombudsperson can, of course, be contacted in Building D (block D) on Diepenbeek Campus. Teaching for the law program is mainly provided on the city campus in Hasselt. Students on other programs usually attend classes (in various buildings) on Diepenbeek Campus. Students can commute by public transport between the two campuses. Hasselt University has six faculties that control teaching and research. Each faculty forms an education management team (OMT) and an Examination Board for each program. Various departments operate within the faculties. These bring together all staff performing research and teaching within the same discipline. Each department, in turn, consists of one or more research groups. These are responsible for the organization of specialist research. Running across this classic tree structure of faculties, research groups, and departments are the research institutes. These groups, together with researchers from different research groups who perform research in specific priority areas. The entire research spectrum is covered in this way, from fundamental research via applied research to practical applications. The Transnational University of Limburg is a unique partnership of two universities in two countries: Hasselt University and Maastricht University. The computer science/knowledge technology, statistics, and biomedical sciences / molecular life sciences programs have already been brought into this partnership. The Bachelor of Law program is a joint initiative of Hasselt University, Maastricht University, and KU Leuven. Collaborations with other universities are also being sought in other scientific fields. Hasselt University is structured as a matrix organization, directing education, research, and valorization in an integrated manner. At the highest level, we distinguish the six faculties and schools. They manage the academic education and research policy of the faculty or school. Every faculty counts several capacity groups. They group all staff members conducting research and teaching within the same discipline. Each capacity group consists of one or more research groups responsible for a specialized research organization. The research institutes traverse this classical tree structure of faculties, capacity groups, and research groups. The six research institutes work interdisciplinary and consist of researchers from different research groups researching within a particular research area. The entire research spectrum is covered, from fundamental research via applied research to practical applications. The research institutes aim to achieve a critical mass and greater visibility, which in turn increases the research's efficiency. In the new education and research positioning of Hasselt University, the international component plays a prominent and natural role: Hasselt University aims to be a creative hub in an international knowledge and innovation web for its students, researchers, and other stakeholders. Hasselt University is innovative, result-oriented, open, social, and international but, at the same time, has a regional base.
