Welcome to St Gregory's Catholic Primary School. We are a one form entry school with 250 pupils on the roll. We are a fully inclusive school with high expectations of all pupils. Mission Statement: “Living, Loving and Learning with Jesus”. Our aim as an inspirational Catholic school is to be a family inspired by Jesus, to be a safe, caring, and supportive community where everyone is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. We will do this by living close to Jesus. Being a community that loves learning and provides challenging opportunities for all to grow and develop. Developing a partnership between home, school, parish, and the wider community. Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education enables children to become healthy, independent, and responsible members of society. We encourage our pupils to play a positive role in contributing to the life of the school and the wider community. In doing so we help to develop their self-worth and enable them to work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their learning. The children reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the social, moral, cultural, and spiritual issues that are part of growing up. We teach the children how society is organized and governed. We provide opportunities for the children to find out about the main political and social institutions that may affect their lives and about their responsibilities, rights, and duties as individuals and members of communities. We ensure they experience the process of democracy in school through the school council. The children learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse and multicultural society. The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values were reiterated in 2014. At St Gregory’s these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways. These values are Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs. At St. Gregory's we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework (EYFS). This curriculum is based upon four themes and principles. Unique Child - Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured. Positive Relationships - Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. Enabling Environments - Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents, and carers. Learning and Development - Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities. There are 3 prime areas and 4 specific areas of learning in the Foundation Stage framework curriculum. In the 2 Year and 3-4-Year-old Nursery provision, the focus is on the 3 Prime areas. Both settings are equipped with both age and developmentally appropriate resources to meet the individual children's. In Reception, the focus begins to be on the Specific areas once the Prime areas are embedded. In all EYFS settings within St Gregory's, children spend their time within a free flow enabling environment between indoors and outdoors, and through both adult-led and child-initiated activities. Welcome to our school. We give you an introduction to the life of our happy and successful school, which has been serving the Catholic community in Harrow and Brent for well over 50 years, providing a full range of academic courses for girls and boys of all abilities. We are firmly committed to our Mission Statement “Pro Deo - For God the Best and the Greatest”. Consequently, we have an unrelenting focus on raising standards in all aspects of school life (spiritual, moral, academic, and social) so that each student can develop their God-given talents to the full and be the best they can be. We take great care to make sure that students build on their prior attainment when they join us in year 7 and ensure that this process continues as they progress through the school into the Sixth Form (so that our girls and boys work to their full ability). There is also an enhanced provision for the Gifted and Talented and an extensive Extra-Curricular program. In short, we believe, a thriving institution and a real Catholic community with over 1000 girls and boys. We hope that we live this out in all that we do and say. Any mission statement needs to be a living, breathing document and ours has encouraged us to ask some important questions. In particular "what is our reason for existing?" and "what is our shared sense of purpose and identity?" As a Catholic school, we have a specific mission that goes beyond providing an outstanding education. As a faith-filled community, every student is invited to connect with the deeper call to be converted and as Catherine of Siena said to 'become all who God meant us to be. St. Gregory’s Catholic Science College aims to provide an education of the highest quality for all our pupils in all of the key stages. The curriculum is broad and balanced and develops pupils’ knowledge, understanding, skills, and talents so that they not only become successful learners but are fully prepared for their future lives. All our pupils follow the core subjects of the National Curriculum from years 7 – 9: English, Mathematics, Science, and Religious Education. Pupils also study foundation subjects in Art and Design, Citizenship, Computer Science, Design & Technology, French, Geography, History, Music, PSHE, Physical Education, and SRE. During Year 9, each pupil is supported in choosing a Key Stage 4 curriculum pathway that is most appropriate for their ability. Our pupils are carefully prepared for making their choice with appropriate advice. All our pupils must continue with a broad and balanced curriculum at Key Stage 4 and in designing the Key Stage 4 curriculum we aim to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and also provide an inclusive curriculum for our pupils. Most pupils will have the opportunity to study at least eight or more GCSEs in Years 10 and 11. St Gregory’s has a strong academic reputation at Key Stage 5. We have high expectations of all our students in terms of their commitment to their studies and their self-motivation. We match this with a high level of support from tracking progress to intervention, mentoring, and supervised study sessions. As a Catholic secondary school, St Gregory’s promotes values such as "mutual understanding and respect" and equality between girls and boys supporting ideals such as democracy, respect, and tolerance for all races, cultures, faiths, and beliefs. This is lived out in the programs of School Assemblies, Religious Education, English, Geography, History, PSHE, and Citizenship classes. The following British Values are covered in the curriculum. Prayer and worship are central to the daily life of our school, through class prayer, assemblies, and staff prayer. The Gospel call to justice and service is made explicit in assemblies, RE lessons, and across the Curriculum. Students are given considerable time to be reflective about their own religious beliefs that inform their perspectives on life and their interest in and respect for different people’s faiths, feelings, and values, evidenced in the study of Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, and Hindu faiths through KS3, KS4, and KS5. In both the RE and PSHE programs, students study other faiths and learn about empathy, tolerance, and understanding of people from different faith backgrounds. Students display a sense of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves, others, and the world around them. They have the opportunity to produce a faith journey every year to analyze how events and milestones have affected their faith. Students are encouraged to write and share their prayers in Form time throughout the year. Students recognize the difference between right and wrong and readily apply this to their own lives. Moral education permeates the entire curriculum and is mapped in departmental schemes of work. As result students are taught about the difference between right and wrong in all lessons. Students are encouraged to act out their lives under the Gospel values and are encouraged to forgive those who have done something wrong. Assemblies also provide an opportunity for students to reflect upon moral and ethical issues and to understand how their behavior and actions have consequences. View full school
