  1. Founded in 1821, Gonzaga is a Catholic college preparatory school for boys in grades 9-12. The only Jesuit high school in the District of Columbia, Gonzaga, draws inspiration from the spiritual vision of St. Ignatius Loyola and the apostolic and educational tradition of the Society of Jesus. Our mission is to offer a values-oriented and academically challenging curriculum to young men of diverse backgrounds from all over the Washington area. Because he believed that God could be found in all things, he learned to approach reality in a very intentional way to maximize his own direct, personal experiences of God. His "way of proceeding" became the basis of Jesuit spirituality and Jesuit education's driving force. This spirituality of St. Ignatius makes Jesuit education, not just an excellent education but a life-altering experience. At Gonzaga College High School, it is not enough for us to teach students what they will need to succeed in college and beyond. It is not enough for us to develop students' athletic and extracurricular abilities to their fullest. For an education to be genuinely Jesuit, it must always point in some meaningful way to Christ's ongoing presence in our world. To be faithful to the tradition of St. Ignatius, we must help our students encounter, engage, and reflect upon their world in a way that helps them see the underlying presence of Christ, who loves them personally, calls them individually and invites them to labor by his side in his plan of salvation. This is the mission of Jesuit education. This is the spirit of Gonzaga College High School. Excellence is part of the culture of Gonzaga. It is not, however, merely excellence for its own sake. A Jesuit education challenges students to pursue their potential to the fullest and then to confront the question, "And now what?" What do I do with all that God has given me? What do I do with the talents that I have developed? Through religious studies, retreats, opportunities for prayer, and service, a Jesuit education seeks to help students answer these questions—as well as the three pivotal questions of St. Ignatius: "What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What will I do for Christ?" The answers to these questions, central to Jesuit spirituality, are the four-year quest of a Gonzaga student, which then continues for life. Gonzaga College High School is a Catholic college preparatory school for boys operated by the Society of Jesus and its colleagues under the governance of an independent Board of Trustees. Drawing its inspiration from St. Ignatius of Loyola's spiritual vision and the apostolic and educational tradition of the Jesuits, it offers a values-oriented and academically challenging curriculum to young men of diverse backgrounds from all of the Washington metropolitan area. Gonzaga views its urban setting in the heart of the nation's capital as a significant advantage in fulfilling its goals, allowing its students to interact with the broader Washington community and learn leadership skills and civic responsibility as part of their overall development. Moreover, Gonzaga strives to create a dynamic and caring learning environment that unites its academic, extracurricular, and athletic programs to help form Men with and for Others. Saint Ignatius tells us that we ought to "act as if everything depended on your trust as if everything depended on God." You will find that is the way things work at Gonzaga. We are a community of believers guided by God and dedicated to one another. Gonzaga is a place rooted in deep tradition and unwavering faith. It is a place where prayer and service are as important as any other facet of life. It is also a community where everyone knows what it means to work hard. Our alumni give generously of their time, treasure, and talent. Our parents plan and execute countless activities and events; often, it must seem, spending more time at Gonzaga than at home. Our faculty, coaches, and staff work tirelessly to mold minds, strengthen bodies, and warm hearts. They work to keep our school beautiful and our students safe. Each student at Gonzaga fashions that identity through a continuous development process – a "rising spiral" that supports him and helps him overcome the fear of failure and the unknown through the steady acquisition of skills, experiences, and values. At Gonzaga, we understand that this process is immeasurably enhanced by a racially, culturally, and socio-economically diverse community.
  2. Gonzaga College is a Jesuit school, a Catholic educational community working to establish gospel values as the cornerstone of our local, national, and international society. We strive to form men of competence, conscience, courage, and compassion men of integrity, whose faith affirms each individual's uniqueness and dignity, demands a generous commitment to service and seeks to bring about a world where justice is the birthright of all. Holistic development of the individual student, based on the pursuit of excellence in his academic, cultural, physical, social, and spiritual growth, is at the core of our mission. The motto of our school is Semper et Ubique Fidelis: Always and Everywhere Faithful. The Special Educational Needs (SEN) Department in Gonzaga College SJ supports students who have been assessed with a specific learning need according to the guidelines of the Department of Education & Skills (DES). Support from the DES is allocated under these guidelines for students who receive resource teaching support for designated learning needs. Applications for resource support are applied on an individual basis through the Special Educational Needs Organiser (SENO) assigned to the College by National Council for Special Education. These applications are made annually and throughout the year, to the SENO. The College is not in receipt of DES funding for learning support. However, it currently allocates funding from its resources to provide support to address the needs of those students who do not meet the DES criteria relating to resource teaching support. Such students are supported by the SEN department, the pastoral team, and classroom teachers responsible for that student. Reasonable accommodations for students in State Examinations are applied for each year by the SEN department. It may be necessary for parents to update professional reports to assist in this application process.
  3. Gonzaga Senior High School has been started in 1987 and directed by Jesuits of Indonesia Province. As a product of Jesuit education, Gonzaga College prioritizes Competence, Conscience, and Compassion for our students. We appreciate the individual gifts of each student and challenge them to share those gifts with our school community and the world beyond. "Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam" is our motto. Welcome to Gonzaga College! We encourage our students to be men and women for others as a part of preparing future leaders. Our vision is preparing future leaders who have excellence, competence, responsibility, openness, and integrative power in the spirit of services and concern for others and their environment, and should be imbued with the noble of conscience in the spirit of Christianity. Mission: Developing the youth to be mature person by doing experience, reflection, action, and evaluation. Developing the faculties and staff. Fostering a sense of social care. Developing understanding and appreciation of the values of life as the result of the Spiritual Exercises. Instilling all Christianities’s values in everyday life. Fostering an attitude of openness and courage to have a habit of dialogue. Fostering a Personal approach (cura personalis). Nurturing man and woman in an ongoing formation. Values: Honesty and love the truth Discipline and responsible Open and innovative Care with others and environments Collaborations and fellowships Honesty means no contradictions or discrepancies in thoughts, words, or actions. Being honest to oneself is real and produces particular task confidence and inspire faith in others. Honesty means never abusing what is given with confidence. However, the concept of honesty can be confusing and easily manipulated because it is more interior. Honest behavior measures a person’s moral qualities in which all behavior patterns and motivations depending on the self-regulation of an individual. Honesty is the human quality of communicating itself through human meaning and act correctly (truthfully). Therefore, honesty is closely related to the value of truth, including the ability to listen, as well as the ability to speak, as well as any behavior that can arise from human action. Simply put, honesty can be defined as an ability to express facts and personal beliefs as possible as it is. This attitude is manifested in behavior, both honest to others or to yourself (do not cheat yourself), and honest attitude towards personal motivation and inner reality in an individual. Commitment comes from the commitment (an agreement or a pledge to do something in the future – English). In other words, commitment is an agreement or promise, or commitment to implement something in the future. “Commitment” is derived from the Latin word co – mittimus. That is, co meaning “together”, mittimus means “we send”. Mittimus is derived from the Latin verb mittere meaning “to send”. With missionary fervor that later became the basis for a commitment. Instilling the values of simplicity is a challenge for educators in the current lust gratification society that worships buy. Value simplicity is associated with a zealous attitude, behavior to use something as necessary as it is, does not exceed what is supposed to be. Moderation of course the opposite and not distinguished by a simple gesture. Attitude does not usually appear in simple activities that are redundant, for example, like go prom nite in a hotel, parties who are not related and are not meaningful to the educational process, the use of a car to school without permission, showing off luxury goods (cars, mobile phones, etc.), excessive consumption, to waste time in vain for pleasure, and others.
  4. At Gonzaga, our liberal-arts education focuses on developing the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. So you can become a person of curiosity, courage, and conviction. A person of purpose. That is part of our Jesuit heritage: helping you discover your God-given calling and go after it with everything you have got. What you will learn at Gonzaga will take you beyond the classroom and into the world. Beyond the status quo and into a future filled with creativity and optimism. And all the while, you will be surrounded by a community of people cheering you on and pushing you to be your best. Because when you find your purpose at Gonzaga, you also find that you can use it to shape the world for the better—for all of us. The Gonzaga educational experience prepares students to be wholehearted leaders who serve the common good and give God glory. The Mission Statement and Statement of Affirmation express Gonzaga's unique identity as an exemplary university rooted in our Jesuit, Catholic, humanistic tradition. Gonzaga University is an exemplary learning community that educates students for leadership and service lives for the common good. In keeping with its Catholic, Jesuit, and humanistic heritage and identity, Gonzaga models and expects excellence in academic and professional pursuits and intentionally develops the whole person -- intellectually, spiritually, culturally, physically, and emotionally. Through engagement with knowledge, wisdom, and questions informed by classical and contemporary perspectives, Gonzaga cultivates its students' capacities and dispositions for reflective and critical thought, lifelong learning, spiritual growth, ethical discernment, creativity, and innovation. The Gonzaga experience fosters a mature commitment to human dignity, social justice, diversity, intercultural competence, global engagement, solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, and care for the planet. Grateful to God, the Gonzaga community carries out this mission with responsible stewardship of our physical, financial, and human resources. It is an exciting time to be at Gonzaga. From the re-envisioning of our student center and the construction of several new facilities to the cadre of nationally known speakers on campus and the ongoing excitement surrounding our first-ever appearance in the Final Four basketball tournament in 2017, the momentum on campus is palpable. Perhaps more than ever, we must maintain this enthusiasm – combined with a healthy hunger for relevance – to address our popular culture's challenges. This world needs Zags, and Zags need each other. As our students go out into the world, they connect with older alums who guide and mentor them in new careers. They engage together in community development efforts locally and abroad. Generations of friends gather for reunions or alumni chapter events around the globe. The heart of that connection is the Jesuit notion of being people for others – an understanding that adds meaning to a college education … and a life well-lived. Because Gonzaga is a Jesuit institution, we value inquiry and innovation. The Jesuits have a long tradition of scholarship grounded in human concerns: How can we answer big questions and solve severe problems, so life improves for all of us? How can we become better scholars, better people, and better servants of God? That's why at Gonzaga, we'll push you to ask tough questions. To analyze thoughtfully. Communicate precisely. Find intersections among disciplines and peoples. Take risks. Push boundaries. Create solutions. We educate not merely to distribute degrees, but so you will grow into an inventive thinker, generous collaborator, global citizen, and an all-around right person. We educate so you can determine what you're meant to do--and so you have all the knowledge, skills, and resources to do just that. A Gonzaga education will transform you into your best self so that you can transform the world. Gonzaga provides many resources to support our students at every stage of their university experience. Student Development is proud to offer numerous opportunities to Gonzaga students outside of the classroom. We recognize that students need to develop their mind, body, and spirit as they engage in their academic pursuits. We endeavor to help students develop through the Jesuit tradition of cura personals, which translates from the Latin as the care and concern for the whole person's dignity. We offer extra-curricular and co-curricular opportunities that provide students an invitation to take an active role in shaping their own experience at Gonzaga. In taking responsibility for their journey and contributing to Gonzaga's environment, students learn leadership, critical thinking, and other skills that will make them valuable resources in their future communities and professional roles. The Disability Access office in the Center for Student Academic Success at Gonzaga University establishes accommodations for students with disabilities and supports faculty and staff in providing those accommodations. Health & Counseling Services functions as your private physician's office and counseling center. The Health & Counseling Services staff have a strong focus on wellness and want you to benefit from Gonzaga's Jesuit education fully. Our Board Certified Family Physicians, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, and Counselors are here to give you our expertise and care in a confidential setting.
