- Fairway School is a community school situated in the North West of the London Borough of Barnet. Although very near to the A1, it is situated in the pleasant surroundings of the Green Belt and borders Mill Hill Golf Course. Fairway Primary school opened in 1952 as a one-form entry co-educational nondenominational school. We joined with Fairway Children’s Centre in 2006 and moved into our new building in February 2011. Northway Special School is also situated in this new building enabling us to share some of each other's facilities Fairway is an establishment where staff and governors are committed to nurturing, inspiring, and challenging all of our children. At Fairway, our children are at the heart of all we do. We aim to instill a love of learning in all our pupils, as well as the confidence to take risks and develop ownership of their learning. We celebrate individuality and diversity in school and deliver a curriculum that promotes empathy, tolerance, and an understanding of each other. Our main aim is a happy, productive learning environment in which no child is prevented from learning by the selfish behavior of another child. It is made clear to children that we expect a high standard of courteous behavior at all times. We have a whole school Behaviour Policy and a set of Golden Rules which children are expected to follow. We have a Happy Book assembly (Yr 1 – Yr 6). Children from these classes are presented with certificates for good behavior, consideration for others, good work, helpfulness, etc. Good behavior is also emphasized by praise and stickers. In the event of a child having a persistent behavior problem, parents/carers are consulted so that we can work on a solution together. We provide a lively, creative curriculum to challenge and motivate our pupils and enable them to participate in a range of high-quality learning opportunities. The school’s excellent facilities enhance the quality of the children’s education but our greatest resource is our skilled and dedicated staff, who work tirelessly to provide the best teaching and learning experiences for every child. We arrange a variety of educational visits throughout the year. The safety of our children is of paramount importance and we plan Educational Visits by our Educational Visits Policy. We are very conscious of the need for effective security at Fairway. The school has security lighting, a sophisticated alarm system, and CCTV. All visitors must report to the front desk to sign the visitors' book and collect a visitors' badge. We recognize that many children at some stage in their education may have a Special Educational Need. We are committed to an inclusive approach. We aim to ensure each child has full access to the Curriculum by adapting our teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of the individual child. The Class Teacher, Inclusion Coordinator, and relevant Support Staff, in consultation with the parents/carers, produce an individual education plan. This is regularly monitored and reviewed termly. We aim to identify any Special Education Need as early as possible and we encourage parents/carers to contact us at an early stage if they feel their child has a particular problem or difficulty. As with all our policies, Fairway Special Education Needs Policy is available for parents/carers to view. At Fairway School we recognize that some children may be particularly able in one or more areas of the Curriculum. The Curriculum is planned so that each child can achieve personal standards of excellence. The work is matched to individual children’s abilities. At Fairway we have excellent relationships with local secondary schools and use these facilities to enhance our curriculum further. As a school, we embrace our pivotal role in the community we serve and acknowledge the importance of contributing to the wider community. The school aims to ensure that our children develop as global citizens so that they can seize and shape the world they live in. We work closely with parents and families to support them in raising children who are ready to meet the demands of a fast-moving world, whilst treasuring the wonder and magic of childhood, helping them to grow – but not too fast! - Fairway Primary Academy is committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all its children and staff. We base our ethos on the principles of Restorative Justice and work to ensure our Academy is a ‘Peaceful Academy.’ We are pleased to be part of the ‘Education Central’ Family of Academies. Fairway Primary Academy has a dedicated team of staff who believe in supporting the development of resilience and reflection. Our vision is to prepare our children for the challenges of life ahead and ensure they are confident, in not only knowledge and skills, but also their beliefs and sense of self. We are a school that takes pride in our curriculum by providing creative opportunities that enhance every child’s development to learn and discover knowledge as well as embracing their talents. Meeting together to share as a community is very important to us. We have whole school assemblies on Mondays and Fridays where we celebrate achievements and welcome visitors into Fairway. We have a variety of people come and share with us from local and faith communities. All visitors are DBS checked and adhere to our ethos and values. Recent visitors have included Birmingham City Mission and Kings Norton Baptist Church. We are also pleased to have worked with SACRE on interfaith celebrations and dialogue. In the Birmingham community, cohesion means working towards a society in which strong and positive relationships exist and continue to be developed in schools, in the workplace, and the wider community. This is achieved through shared values which would include: the valuing of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, tolerance, and mutual respect of people’s backgrounds and circumstances promoting equal opportunities and challenging discrimination, all of which is based on the Equality Act 2010 and is non-negotiable. ALL children in Birmingham will experience a broad and balanced curriculum enabling them to grow and learn in an environment without prejudice or inequality.
