Our school is a magnet school located in Southern Taiwan Science Park. It was founded to provide an excellent education for the children of the employees working in the Southern Taiwan Science Park and to establish an educational foundation for the development of the science park and the local community. In 1997, Nanke Junior High School was established with Dr. Kuang Ming Huang as its director. Mr. Da Yong Guo and Mr. Kun Ho Fang became the first and second principals of the school. In 1998, Nanke Elementary School was founded with Mr. Chang Dao Lu as its director and principal. In April 2006, Mr. Chun Cheng Wang was designated as its director before the two schools were merged. In August 2006, after the high school and the elementary school merged, Dr. Hsu Chang Tai took over as the first principal of the newly formed school. Dr. Kuan Tsai Lin was the second principal of the school. The current school principal is Mr. Wen-Jyh Chyn. The school has about 2,266 students and 209 staff, and provides 1-12 education, emphasizes the continuity in education from elementary to high school, and integration of science park resources for innovative teaching and learning. The school has 12 classes in the senior high department, 21 classes in the junior high department, 42 classes in the elementary department, and 12 classes in the bilingual department. The school is working on creative teaching methods to become a top international school that establishes a firm foundation in the humanities featuring a magnet program in science. In 2017, the school was awarded the highest honor in school accreditation by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. The school organizes various activities for students to provide a well-rounded education. Snapshots of school events and activities are as follows, Moral Education: Teacher’s Day activities, Environmental Education – Carbon Reducing Contest, AIDS Prevention Seminar, 「Mountain Exploring, Self-Challenge 」 Environmental Expedition Camp, Special Report on Green Building Designs by Da- I TV Channel, Sports Day Creative Marching, Nanke Interact English Camp, Model Student Elections, Winter Charity, Wind Band Concerts. To nurture the students’ multi-intelligence and develop their healthy personalities, the school offers about 30 different extra-curriculum activities, such as dancing, pop music¸ ball games, martial art, debate, tennis, wind band, scout, chorus, leadership training club, etc. Special English courses (e.g. ESL, Second Foreign Language Courses, MUN) and English competitions are held by the foreign teachers of the Bilingual Department to cultivate the English learning atmosphere and expand their global vision. A variety of ball games, track and field events, tug-of-war, and water sports are held during the school’s anniversary celebration to strengthen students’ athletic abilities. Lectures on science & green-tech science camp are organized and held every summer to increase the students’ interests in learning science and independent research. With library activities such as organizing literary talks and inviting experts to talk to students, Library Nights, Creative Decorative Arts provided by Tainan University of the Arts, Reading Hall, and Magic Story Plaza, helps to promote a reading atmosphere within the campus. With reading comment competitions and book exhibitions, the school promotes reading and research. Students study abroad during summer vacation for international communication in aspects of music, cultures, and languages so that they can be equipped with a better international vision. It was created by Science Park's Article 10 of the Act for Establishment and Administration, jointly overseen by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology (then National Science Council). Approved in June 1982, the school was officially founded and started to operate in August 1983. To provide quality education for the children of the employees of the following institutions, such as private enterprises in the Hsinchu Science Park, the academic and research institutes in the Greater Science Park Area, and returning diplomats. To cultivate bilingual and bicultural students, bilingual education is offered to those coming from overseas to assist them in either transferring to the local system or going back later overseas. Guided by the school motto: "Integrity, Diligence, Innovation, and Excellence," NEHS is committed to building a dynamic learning community that emphasizes intellectual curiosity, creative learning, collaboration, leadership, and civic service. Through our rigorous academic programs, diverse extracurricular activities, and volunteering opportunities, we aim to inspire each student to be a caring, creative, and competent individual with a global perspective in pursuit of excellence. Comprised of kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school and bilingual departments, NEHS is a K-12 school offering both national and international curricula. Occupying a spacious site of around 35.09 acres, NEHS serves approximately 2,700 students in roughly 100 or more classes, with around 270 faculty and staff members in service, of which 230 are teachers.
