The school is situated in the heart of Angel, Islington, and is privileged to serve our local community and provide education for our children from 3 to 11 years old. The Catholic life of the school and Religious Education underpins everything we do. We nurture a sense of belonging and social responsibility not only to the school and parish but also to the wider community. At St John Evangelist Catholic School we work collaboratively with our parents, parish, and the wider community to promote, develop and sustain our community through the Catholic life of the School. We are a school of prayer. We encourage religious devotion in simple and regular practices during the school day. We celebrate the liturgy of the Church following the seasons and feast days of the Church’s year. We teach children to understand the meaning of justice and support them to act justly and to promote the common good. We enable our community to reach out to the suffering and marginalized individuals and communities locally and globally through our charitable events and fundraising. We are open and welcoming to people of other faiths and no faith. In collaboration with our Parish clergy, we promote the Christian life and Catholic identity of the school. A Healthy School promotes the health and well-being of its pupils. A well-planned taught curriculum in a physical and emotional environment that promotes learning and healthy lifestyle choices. At St John Evangelist School we believe that schools that promote healthy lifestyles: Enable children to achieve. Allows sustained school improvement. Are more inclusive. Have a range of positive behaviors including strategies to reduce bullying and an awareness of what constitutes healthy living. Have enhanced PSHCE provision. Have more effective liaison between home and school, and school and external support agencies. In July 2017 St John’s gained the STARS Bronze award. STARS – Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe – is an accreditation scheme for schools, nurseries, and colleges to inspire young Londoners to travel sustainably, actively, responsibly, and safely. In doing this, STARS empowers pupils and improves the safety and wellbeing of the whole community. It also encourages active travel behavior and improves the environment around the school. St John Evangelist School continues to serve the community of St John the Evangelist Parish. It has a vibrant and eclectic intake as it did when the school was first established. The Catholic community of Islington includes immigrants, both new and old, from across Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and the Caribbean and they continue to send their children and grandchildren to the school. We have served and educated a very similar community for 180 years and hopefully will continue to do so for many years to come. View full school
