Dormers Wells Junior is a large, multicultural school in Southall for pupils aged 7 – 11. We have three classes in each year group and can accommodate up to 412 pupils. We have close links and share our site with Dormers Wells Infant School and are also located close to Dormers Wells High School and Dormers Wells Sports Centre (where the children go swimming). There is a long-standing tradition of sporting excellence. This is supported by specialist teaching of physical education and a range of extra-curricular clubs. We are part of the Dormers Wells Family within the Featherstone School Sports Partnership and have several sports teams who actively represent the school at inter-borough competitions. Our vision is to provide a happy, caring, and stimulating environment where children will achieve their fullest potential so that they can make their best contribution to society. Our vision for Dormers Wells Junior School reflects a passionate commitment to learning and recognition of the uniqueness of individual learners. It is driven by our desire to offer the best possible education for our pupils in partnership with our parents and the local community. Our aims and vision are designed to fulfill Article 6 from the UNICEF Charter of the Rights of the Child which states that We have to do all we can to ensure that children survive and develop to their full potential. Our children and families come from all over the world and more than 30 languages are spoken. Our commitment is to ensure that all our pupils share one language and one goal-to be the very best. At DWJS we plan different cross-curricular projects for each school term. We try to make as many links across different subjects as possible. Listed below are the main objectives that will be learned. You can use these to guide additional research and visits at home as this will support your child’s learning and understanding. The government provides additional funding per annum for primary schools that qualify, to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sports. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school headteachers. The money must be used to improve the provision of P.E. and school sport. The purpose of this grant is to fund improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of pupils aged 5-11 years old, in the 2016/17 academic year so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles. This has recently been extended until 2020. P.E. and school sport, play a very important part in the life of the Dormers Wells pupil. We are proud of our sporting reputation at this school and we want to improve and enhance provision for the subject with this money. We are a mixed community comprehensive school in the London Borough of Ealing dedicated to serving our locality. All visitors to our school notice how proud the students and staff are of their school. At the heart of everything we do are our students. Our curriculum is student-centered and we aim for their education to be inspiring, stimulating, and challenging. Our students’ results in mathematics placed us in the top 2% percent of schools nationally for progress made from KS2 to KS4 and humanities is in the top 3% nationally. We encourage and nurture a ‘growth mindset in all members of our community this ethos is supported by our flexible curriculum, which enables our students to make rapid progress. As Ofsted stated: “The atmosphere is calm and orderly. Pupils have high aspirations and work hard”. Our staff members, both teaching and support, are a dedicated and highly professional team with a genuine interest in the psychological and physical well-being, and development of every student. Our pastoral care systems ensure that the students are provided with every opportunity to realize their full potential. It is well known that the staff, students, and parents of DWHS work in close partnership to ensure that all the necessary ingredients are in place to meet individual needs. We know from our own experiences what difference teachers make to the progress of the students. That is why staff development is given the highest priority at DWHS. Our extensive training program is based around the Dormers 9, which gives us a common language about the delivery of great teaching and learning. We also have a provision for students with a hearing impairment, which enables these students to be fully integrated into the main school curriculum and extended school activities.
