- Cwmtawe is an 11-16 comprehensive school based in Pontardawe, serving the upper Swansea valley. Created in 1969, the school previously occupied three different sites. It moved to its present site in 1996 and now offers accommodation and facilities which are second to none. We are oversubscribed in most year groups, with 1,270 pupils currently on roll. In addition to pupils within our natural catchment area, a growing number of parents actively choose to send their children to Cwmtawe from other areas of Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Powys, and Carmarthenshire. Preferred placements now account for nearly half our annual pupil intake. The school prides itself on offering a modern education based on traditional values. The way that staff care for, guide, and support pupils is a significant strength, as is the quality of teaching and learning which leads to outstanding outcomes. Our focus is on hard work and working as a team. This embedded culture leads to outcomes for all pupils to be proud of, both within and outside the classroom. We are immensely proud of the achievements of all our pupils, as we are sure you will see throughout this website. The school has facilities which are second to none. This allows pupils to maximize the opportunities on offer to develop their aptitudes and interests. We are also incredibly proud of the quality of our teaching and support staff. They maintain consistently high expectations of all pupils and work tirelessly to ensure everyone achieves their potential. However, don’t take my word for it. Our mission statement was devised when the new school building was established in 1996, but still accurately encapsulates what Cwmtawe stands for to this day.
