Chilwell Croft Academy is a very happy and improving school for children aged four to eleven. The school currently has children on roll representing over 30 nationalities, speaking 40 different languages. We are proud to be part of a multicultural community, and actively celebrate the diversity of our school. We aim to provide an environment where children can make progress academically and develop personally. Everything we do is focused on this. We spend a lot of time and effort developing the culture of our school. The physical environment is welcoming and orderly – our artist in residence works with children to show off their art skills and this is exhibited throughout the school. Our pupils learn to behave, have a good attitude to learning, and respect each other. Every pupil has a planner and is a member of a house team to help them do this. Pupils take pride in their work as evidenced by the presentation in their books. They value our rewards system and say they feel safe in school. Developing the highest quality teaching lies at the heart of our school improvement agenda. We celebrate success and share good practice whenever we can. We are very proud of our pupils and their families. Here, every child is truly valued for his or her contribution and encouraged to grow in confidence. A real strength of our school is the very positive relationships between staff and pupils and within peer groups. In partnership with parents, we aim to enhance the learning experiences for all children with SEN/additional needs in Chilwell Croft Academy. To ensure the delivery of this entitlement for all children, we work following the new revised Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (SEN COP). We work closely with many external agencies to support children in all areas of the curriculum. At Chilwell Croft Academy, we are committed to ensuring that every child succeeds and reaches their full potential. EAL is used for pupils whose first language is not English. These pupils may have recently arrived in the country or are being brought up in homes and communities where languages other than English are used. In the educational environment, they now have to learn English in addition to languages they already know and use, and they have to use English to access subject content in different curriculum areas. Our EAL students come from a wide range of ethnic, linguistic, and cultural backgrounds. Some of our EAL students arrive in school having had little or no formal education while some have prior experience of formal education and with literacy skills in one or more languages. Barn Croft Primary is one of the few remaining single-form entry primary schools left in the borough of Waltham Forest and we pride ourselves on knowing all our children as individuals. Our personalized approach extends throughout a child's school career from the initial home visit in the nursery when staff takes the time to get to know the parent and child through to individualized revision plans and Easter school to help Year 6 pupils fulfill their potential. We are a friendly and inclusive school where children settle in quickly and make good progress. We believe that at the heart of this success lies good communication between home and school. Therefore our Head Teacher can be regularly found in the playground so that they can greet the children at the start of the day and be available to meet parents and discuss any concerns that might arise. This also means that we send home weekly newsletters, have a Suggestion Box for good ideas, hold termly Parents Evenings and conduct an annual survey so that we know what parents think of us and how we could improve. Good communication is a two-way process, and we will also be in touch quickly with any parents where, for example, attendance is poor behavior or learning causes concern a child is frequently late or comes to school without the correct uniform. Barn Croft Primary is a rapidly improving school that has seen many changes in recent years.
