Fantastic learning and teaching going on at Craigroyston Primary. We work hard to ensure that all our children are given the support and encouragement needed to do well in school. We are proud of all that we have achieved and know that with the support of our families we can achieve even more for our children. All pupils and staff have the right to feel happy, safe, and included. Our shared values of mutual respect between staff and pupils as well as high expectations of success within a caring and supportive environment form the basis of our positive school ethos. Within our school community, we promote tolerance and understanding of one another and value diversity. We are committed to advancing equality of opportunity for all and we work actively towards eliminating all forms of bullying and discrimination We recognize the effects that bullying and discrimination can have on pupils’ feelings of worth and their school work. We actively foster good relations between diverse groups and individuals. We recognize that certain individuals and groups in society experience disadvantage, prejudice, or discrimination on account of their age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender change, looked-after status, religion or belief, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status, or any combination of these. We use the legal definition of ‘equalities’ which gives protection to people who have specific characteristics - for example being gay, lesbian, bisexual, from a minority ethnic or faith group, disabled or old. Looked-after children, children undergoing gender change, young carers, and children and young people from poor backgrounds are also included as equalities groups. The Equality Act 2010 defines these as ‘protected groups’. When reviewing or creating any new policies or services within our school, we give due regard to all groups and consider whether any individual or group might experience a particularly positive or negative impact. We keep a record of this and where necessary we take steps to reduce any negative impact. We actively encourage all our young people to participate in school and extra-curricular activities and we take positive action to make sure that the diverse school population is represented in activities, surveys, and our pupil groups. At Craigroyston Primary we have 6 assemblies per year involving religious observance. They include: New Beginnings Assembly Harvest Assembly St Andrews Day Assembly in November Christmas Assembly Easter Assembly Summer Assembly Parents are always invited and welcome at these services, but they are also entitled to withdraw their children if they would prefer. We have a strong caring pupil support system and there are many opportunities for pupils to take part in a rich program of extra-curricular activities. The curriculum is designed to prepare our pupils well for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. We provide a wide range of courses, which include vocational courses. It is our aim that every pupil will achieve their full potential and Craigroyston has a talented and committed team of staff who deliver quality teaching, provide care and support, and offer an excellent range of enriching out-of-school activities. Every young person, without exception, receives excellent quality learning and teaching in a safe, welcoming, nurturing, happy and inclusive environment – so they are able and encouraged to achieve their potential.
