  1. From its modest beginnings in a villa in 1961, St Christopher’s has grown into a large, internationally renowned, non-profit making school with over 2,300 pupils from more than seventy nations. From three to eighteen years of age, these children and young people benefit from the excellence, dedication, and hard work. In our school, we encourage the notion that personal improvement and development is always possible – no matter how high the current level of achievement and success. In line with this philosophy, our teachers use innovative as well as traditional methods. Over recent years we have implemented practices such as the Building Learning Power framework for learning. Latterly we have been using evidence-based teaching research to inform our development and have applied Carol Dweck’s insights into the importance of developing a growth mindset in all pupils. Through these initiatives and others, we seek to ensure that our students become “Autonomous Learners,” “Competent Individuals,” and “Global Citizens” fully prepared and competent to meet head-on the challenges and vagaries of life in the rapidly changing world we share and who care for the world and its peoples beyond their sphere of existence and experience. The values and concepts that guide our school are not easy to summarise briefly. However, the constituent words of what we call the St Christopher’s ‘S’- Caring, Learning, Communicating – say a lot about what we are, especially when considered together with our Five Pillars of Learning, that we have adapted and expanded from ideas to be found in the four aspects of learning described in a report to UNESCO. Finally, beyond the most quoted measure of a school – its first-class examination results – we pride ourselves on maintaining a warm and caring atmosphere, which we know to be essential to a happy and productive learning environment. 3. St Christopher’s School is an independent Primary school, which is part of the Inspired Learning Group. Our school sets out to provide parents with an educational provision which we believe large Independent schools are unable to match. We are a small, highly resourced one-form entry school with an average of 12-14 pupils to a class. Our Inspection reports and our academic results testify to our success. Whilst many Independent schools have grown larger with two or three classes to each year group, we have remained faithful to a type of provision which we believe delivers a better, more Primary focussed education. At St Christopher’s, every child knows every fellow student by name. Children in older year groups mentor younger children and teachers are expected to know about the needs and progress of each child. We believe it is our difference from the standard Independent Schools that makes us better. Our system seeks to attain excellence in academic attainment and pastoral development. We track progress through termly tests which generate standardized scores and age-related grades. We also track reading ages, spelling ages, and verbal and nonverbal reasoning ability. In doing this, we have made a conscious decision to stick to a more rigorous test-based system that will prepare our students for the competitive academic exams they may face when they reach Year 6. Our students aim to sit exams and tests for Independent Schools and Grammar Schools. Our mission is to prepare them. However, academic success isn’t enough. It may not even be the most important thing for a Primary school. There’s something far more important. At St Christopher’s School, we pride ourselves on being an Independent Preparatory School. We are a member of ISA (the Independent Schools Association) and our last Regulatory Compliance Inspection (2016) found us to be compliant in all areas of school regulations. This is the highest standard of achievement for school regulations and is a testament to our teachers and our organization. Furthermore, St Christopher’s has been serving the local community for nearly 90 years and 2018 will mark our 90th anniversary. As an independent Preparatory school, we aim to prepare each student for the opportunities and challenges to be faced in some of the best Secondary schools in London, including Independent and Grammar schools. It is always an important decision when choosing a school for your child. This encapsulates the ethos of the school as it reflects the family atmosphere to which St Christopher’s School aspires. As class sizes are limited to 16, teachers know their pupils very well and excellent working relationships between them have a positive impact on the pupils’ learning. We want the children to flourish as individuals and to become confident and responsible adults. The school prepares children for 11+ entrance examinations, gaining excellent results. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which celebrates the ‘Arts’ as well as the important academic subjects. We have a strong musical emphasis within the school, with every child receiving two class music lessons a week from a specialist music teacher. St Christopher’s School has peripatetic teachers that offer a wide variety of musical instruments which the children can learn. We value good communication with parents as we realize that working in partnership with them benefits the child’s progress and development. Each child has a home link book where notes and messages can be written between home and school. Parents may take an active role in school activities and are welcome to attend school events and accompany their children on one of the many educational trips. At St Christopher's School, we aim to fully realize the educational potential of our pupils: academically, socially, artistically, and physically. We encourage in everyone a sense of personal responsibility and individual worth within a caring multi-cultural community. As a result, our school has a happy and supportive atmosphere that is conducive to learning. St Christopher's School is based on family values that promote understanding, tolerance, and friendship and will encompass the spiritual, educational, social, and physical development of all of its students. The education will provide a well-rounded, solid, foundation upon which our children can grow up to become open-minded, caring, compassionate, and responsible citizens. To experience and develop skills in collaboration and co-operative working and have opportunities to develop leadership skills, organization, and confidence. We believe that our school should provide a nurturing, caring social environment, based on family values, in which the views of all members are heard, valued, and respected and in which students are supported in their development. We believe that our students’ success and happiness in school depends on us working in close partnership with families.
  4. We welcome you to St. Christopher's Catholic Primary School. Our school has an excellent reputation in Liverpool. We are a two-form entry school that offers much more than education. Our children are incredibly happy and have a very positive attitude to their learning. We work hard to develop a creative curriculum that inspires and excites children. We are very fortunate to have great support from our parents and other friends of our school. We are all very proud of our school and our community. In June 2015 we were recognized by Ofsted as a 'Good School' in all areas. Our warm and friendly atmosphere makes St. Christopher's a great place to learn, where children feel safe and develop into responsible young adults. We have creative classrooms, wonderful outdoor learning facilities, a well-used library, and a 'Dream Room' (4D learning space) which all help to enhance the children's learning. Most children join our Nursery at the age of three and stay with us for all of their primary years. They leave as well-rounded and caring individuals. We often welcome past pupils back to school and support them with their work experience or college placements. We love to hear of the successes of our former pupils. Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens. At St Christopher's Catholic Primary School, we embrace each new day and live the Jesus way through Caring, Learning, Inspiring. As a whole community, we aim to do this by working together, having fun, and being happy. Respecting and showing love to everyone and everything. Using kind words and actions. Always try our best and never giving up. Being thankful for each other and God. At St. Christopher's Catholic Primary School, we aim to ensure our children receive a broad and balanced curriculum that is creative, engaging, and fun. We aim to develop the whole child - academically, artistically, physically, spiritually, morally, socially, and culturally. We aim to develop a love of learning in our children and to prepare them for their futures as independent, skilled, and caring individuals. For KS1 and KS2 our curriculum for the foundation subjects is covered as half termly topics. Each topic has links with the children's work in English and maths and begins with an exciting Entry Point. This is an activity that will engage and motivate the children and spark their curiosity for the lessons ahead. Each topic ends with an Exit point which provides an opportunity for all children to 'show what they know. This may take the form of a presentation to parents, a piece of writing, a showcase of work to another class, or perhaps an ICT presentation. In addition, each topic also has a homework project which we hope will provide an opportunity for families to work with their children to deepen their knowledge, skills, and understanding. Our curriculum includes exciting subject and theme immersion days and weeks which allow a more in-depth focus on individual subjects and a variety of enrichment opportunities including visits out and visitors into school. At St. Christopher Catholic Primary school our long-term plans and curriculum overview focuses on the use of Early years outcomes and ensuring that each child makes progress. This is done through relevant planning, which takes into consideration the interests and experiences of the children and assessment. Previous planning, observation, assessment, and the use of floor books and mind maps allow teachers to plan using their knowledge of children’s development, their interests, and next steps. Mind maps (medium-term plans) can be added to and adapted to suit the needs of the children and the lines of development/ interests the children take. Topics or themes are therefore not put into place over a certain number of weeks, rather they are delivered until either they run their course or the children pick up on a new interest.
  5. Welcome to St Christopher’s: a warm, fast-paced, creative, and exciting place in which to learn. We set high standards for ourselves and our girls, which are met with enormous enjoyment and a dynamic, flexible approach to teaching. Every visitor comments on the warmth and the joy in the schoolgirls feel “at home” in our wonderfully conceived site – it is like entering Narnia. From the beautiful Edwardian house that holds court in the center of our grounds to the elegant architect-designed buildings that skirt the edges of the site, girls find great delight in exploring our fairy garden, the fort, the Alice in Wonderland garden, Smaug’s cave, and our “room with a view” – the outdoor classroom with stunning views across the London skyline. The hallmarks of our approach are uncompromising academic standards, achieved through an immensely flexible, creative, and imaginative approach to developing our girls’ higher-order thinking and communication skills. One particularly wonderful tradition reflects this approach: our termly “OWL Awards” – awarded to one girl in each class for her effort, perseverance, creativity, social conscience, and positivity. These are presented by Owlyn – a rather beautiful, disheveled owl – with an imaginative presentation involving staff in a dramatic re-enactment. Our girls adore the ceremony – and the kindness and joy they show for their peers receiving awards are heart-warming. Our aim at St Christopher’s is to inspire in our girls a curiosity in the world around them, a confident articulacy, a warmth of engagement with others, and a lively mind. St Christopher’s Aims: To achieve high academic standards by encouraging independent learning in a stimulating and child-centered environment that fosters our pupils’ ability to take their own decisions To integrate creativity in all its aspects across the curriculum To instill an atmosphere of mutual trust, tolerance, and friendship centered around respect – for self, for each other, and for the community and environment in which we live and work To help our pupils develop over time into responsible, self-confident, and aware young people, ready to embrace the challenges of secondary education and the modern world beyond To engage with and support the wider community in which the school is located through charitable work, providing access to the school’s facilities and resources, and providing financial assistance to those who may not otherwise be in a position to benefit from a St Christopher’s education
  6. St. Christopher's is a committed global leader in understanding, engaging, and teaching boys effectively. We help boys develop the character, wisdom, and life skills required to succeed in college and positively impact leaders in a rapidly changing world. Our faculty is passionate about teaching here--not despite boys' unique characteristics--but because of them. Our unique partnership with St. Catherine's School combines the benefits of a focused, single-sex education with the best elements of a coed experience. Our curriculum helps us discover what is unique in every boy. We build on their strengths, help them gain confidence, and discover and express themselves while instilling values to guide them throughout their lives. Honor, leadership, and community service play a significant role in educating children. These concepts cannot be phrases we pay lip service to in admissions gatherings but must have an active and intentional place within a school's curriculum. At St. Christopher's, we call this "Educating the Whole Boy." The concept of "educating the whole boy" sets us apart from other independent schools for boys. Participation in our non-traditional curriculum is not elective but woven into the fabric of every boy's experience. Each faculty member is committed to bringing out the best in every boy, regardless of whether the pursuit is academic, artistic, or spiritual. We believe that men of character do not develop in a vacuum but rather in a nurturing and challenging environment, which we readily provide. St. Christopher's invites you to read about our Academic, Athletic, and Arts programs -- but more importantly, read about what makes us unique. See how our unique sense of community is reflected in the active involvement of parents, alumni, and friends of the School, whose shared values make St. Christopher is a better place. St. Christopher's School prepares a talented and diverse group of boys for college and life in an ever-changing world. Through a rigorous academic program and a supportive community experience, the School fosters personal integrity and honor, the achievement of each boy's full potential, love of learning, spiritual growth, respect for others, leadership, and civic responsibility. St. Christopher strives for excellence and seeks to make an enduring difference in its boys' lives. Our educational philosophy and programming will continue to evolve and grow as we position the boys for future leadership. We will foster the wisdom--where academic rigor and judgment meet--and personal qualities necessary for our boys to make a tangible difference in our shrinking global community, with emphasis on those qualities of increasing importance in today's world. The community's strength has served as a cornerstone of St. Christopher's success since its founding. The Second Century Vision reinforces St. Christopher's commitment to a school community that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming. From the Board of Governors, through our faculty and families, to the student body, the value of diversity is recognized and advanced through policy initiatives, curriculum and programming, and commitment of school resources.
