  1. Chadwick School is a private, K-12 co-educational school dedicated to developing global citizens with keen minds, exemplary character, self-knowledge, and the ability to lead. Located on a 45-acre hilltop on the scenic Palos Verdes Peninsula, we aim to bring out the best in our students through experiential learning, one-on-one mentoring, unparalleled global opportunities, an outstanding athletics program, highly accredited outdoor education experiences, and an award-winning visual and performing arts program. We are pleased that more than 800 students from over 45 Southern California communities have chosen to call Chadwick "home." For more than 80 years, Chadwick has been so much more than just a place to go to school. Generations of proud alumni, our current faculty, students, and their parents will tell you about the Core Values of a Chadwick education that shapes all that we do within and outside the classroom. We believe those Core Values of honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness, and compassion are essential building blocks for success in school, college, and later life. Chadwick School has always emphasized the importance of excellence in the classroom, labs, studios, and playing fields. But our students are so much more than a collection of high grades, standardized test scores, and lists of admission to selective colleges and universities. As our founder, Margaret Chadwick, said, "We believe there is a marked distinction between thinking and memorizing. " Starting in our Village School and continuing right up to graduation, our curriculum directly supports students' value, spending time out of the classroom, learning by doing and challenging themselves in our outstanding athletics, visual and performing arts, outdoor education, STEM, and nationally recognized community service programs. For us, global studies are not merely an academic exercise. Our faculty and students regularly interact with faculty and students at Chadwick International, our sister school in Songdo, South Korea. Whether through faculty and student exchanges, extended visits, or electronically using our state of- the art Cisco Telepresence Communications Center, Chadwick students develop relationships with their peers in Korea and learn first-hand about cultural differences, norms, and traditions. Also, our student leadership councils, athletic teams, and multiple student groups travel to Songdo and host our Korean counterparts when they come to Palos Verdes. At the heart of Chadwick, you will find talented faculty and staff who have high degrees of expertise in their field, communicate well with students, and are committed to helping all students grow academically, socially, and personally. Chadwick students create meaningful relationships with teachers, advisers, coaches, and peers. Surrounded by peers who share their values, Chadwick students are eager to come to school each day, develop lifelong friendships, and actively support one another's a success. Chadwick Schools are deeply committed to self-discovery through experience and reflection. Students develop the joy of learning, self-confidence, well-being, and curiosity through interactive and practical experiences. Our schools share the core values of respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness, and compassion. Through active participation in an intentionally diverse and inclusive environment, students positively impact and beyond their communities. By living and learning in a student-centered, collaborative atmosphere of excellence, integrity, and trust, we come to expect the best of ourselves and others. Chadwick is committed to providing the highest quality education, which requires a diverse and inclusive environment. Our active inquiry culture and open discussion promote students' ability to discern shared and divergent values and sensibilities while always using the Core Values as a compass to understand local and global perspectives. Chadwick students will learn to engage and communicate across differences, challenge stereotypes, and find, understand, and respect commonalities among individuals of all backgrounds. Chadwick students will be led on a journey of self-discovery. The lived experience of Chadwick students, both inside and outside the classroom, prepares them to engage and thrive as leaders by example, in the world. Through our learning environment and our programs, students experience an essential dynamic between individuality and social responsibility. View full school

By living and learning in a student-centered, collaborative atmosphere of excellence, integrity, and trust, we come to expect the best of ourselves and others. Chadwick School has grown significantly since its opening in 1935, but the legacy of its founder, Margaret Lee Chadwick, remains a driving force behind the school’s continued development. Now in its 75th year, Chadwick has more than 800 students in kindergarten through grade 12 and has graduated more than 3,000 students. One of Chadwick's most significant milestones is the founding in 2010 of Chadwick International School in Songdo, South Korea, expanding opportunities for students around the globe to benefit from a world-class Chadwick education and become lifelong members of the Chadwick Community. For a complete history, visit Chadwick’s Leavenworth Library or the Local History Room of Palos Verdes Peninsula Library. Both houses all of the books Mrs. Chadwick wrote about the school, as well as yearbooks from each graduating class. Chadwick International is an authorized IBPYP school with a self-generated curriculum based on the International Baccalaureate Organization's (IBO) curricular program. The curriculum construction is based on a backward design model from the recognized “Understanding by Design" (UbD™) framework and is an ongoing process involving all stakeholders of the school. Chadwick International provides opportunities in an environment where leaders are actively encouraged, developed, and mentored as they grow into future leaders in their communities. Teamwork along with a competitive spirit is among the most important skills our students learn. At CI, students have multiple leadership opportunities - Village School through Upper School student council, Upper School Honor Council, various student-led clubs, after-school activities, servant leader, and more. Early in their schooling, potential leaders are encouraged to take leadership roles under the supervision of mentor teachers, coaches, and various activities. As they move into Middle School and eventually Upper School, they are poised and ready to lead student council, school clubs, and CI athletic teams. Student leadership is a developmental process where students are mentored by caring teachers who instruct and guide them as they grow and develop. Under the watchful eye of these mentors, students take on greater levels of responsibility eventually starting or leading clubs and initiatives at Chadwick International. These servant leaders are encouraged to lead by example and help develop the future leaders of Chadwick International. CI has created a caring community led by students who know how to collaborate, how to express ideas, how to divide up work, and how to agree about how to get things done. Character and leadership are taught throughout all programs including physical education/athletics and the arts in which all students participate. Our goal is to develop students who consistently display persistence, courage, teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and individual commitment, as well as a competitive spirit. The ability to learn and communicate through a range of languages is the mark of international education espoused by Chadwick’s mission to develop global-minded students, who will impact their world. Language Learning at Chadwick includes supporting students in the learning of their mother tongue while assisting the acquisition of additional languages, including Mandarin, Spanish, or Korean. English is the common language of teaching, learning, and communicating in the Village, Middle, and Upper Schools. In the Village School, the language needs of students are accurately assessed and provided for, including support in one’s mother tongue. Each student remains in full care under a homeroom teacher, student support team member, and counselor, to ensure the child’s development of English, Spanish, or Mandarin, and their first language. In Middle School, students are encouraged to take the first steps in acquiring an additional language through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in Mandarin, Spanish, or Korean acquisition courses, while providing first language courses for Korean native students. Each student is assessed and placed according to their language needs so that they can fully participate in the courses offered. Students in the Upper School continue to develop their mother tongue and an additional language in pursuit of becoming a balanced bilingual/multilingual individual with global perspectives and leadership prowess. Chadwick International aspires to develop a culture of philanthropic giving throughout our community and build a sustainable financial model for Chadwick International. One way we aim to meet these goals is through the Founder’s Circle designed to lead and pass down the legacy of financial support and stewardship. Donations to the Founder’s Circle meet various needs of the community including tuition assistance and scholarship, capital projects, and local civic engagement. Chadwick School is the only K-12 independent coeducational day school in the greater South Bay Area. Our 45-acre campus sits atop a hill on the scenic Palos Verdes Peninsula - a tranquil setting conducive to serious study, opportunities for self-discovery, and companionship among friends. With a commitment to economic, social, and ethnic diversity, Chadwick draws students from approximately 45 different zip codes. The school community remains true to founder Margaret Chadwick’s guiding principles, blending them with the innovations of the ensuing years. Chadwick School emphasizes academic excellence, personal growth opportunities, and development of character, as represented by our five core values: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Fairness, and Compassion.
