      1. Established August 2013 by the LEGO Foundation. A private, independent school with an independent board. Almost 400 students and 100 members of staff. Close to 50 nationalities represented 3 departments: Kindergarten (3-6 years), Primary (6-11 years), Middle School (11-16 years). By placing PLAY at the heart of education, ISB stimulates every child’s natural desire to LEARN. To cultivate a community of lifelong learners who will create a better world with courage, compassion, and curiosity. At ISB we believe play is a core approach to learning…and life. Playful people of all ages are actively engaged and driven by an internal desire to understand and reshape the world. They test the limits of their abilities without fear of failure, knowing that mistakes are the key to progress and, ultimately, success. They share ideas and make new rules. They laugh. At ISB we believe that by creating a culture of playful learning— by consciously introducing elements of choice, wonder, and delight into the classroom— we are nurturing the qualities that will carry our students not only to their next educational destinations but through life. No matter the paths they choose, ISB graduates will seek knowledge, take risks and care for one another. They will play, and they will learn. ISB opened its doors in August 2013 with just over 60 students in Kindergarten and Primary. Today, we have close to 400 students, ages 3-16, spread across Kindergarten, Primary, and Middle School. About one-third of our students are Danish, with the rest representing 50 nations around the world. From the start, ISB’s goals have been ambitious, but achievable: first, to demonstrate the power of playful learning in a real-world setting, and second, to make Billund – the Capital of Children – an even more attractive place to settle, both for Danish and international families. ISB’s playful curriculum is built upon the rigorous educational framework of the International Baccalaureate, which provides students with a solid and transferable foundation of academic skills. We are an authorized IB World School for both the Primary and Middle Years Programme. View full school
