    University of Bergamo

The University of Bergamo is located in Lombardia, a region in Northern Italy with more than ten million inhabitants and one of the regions with the highest GDP per capita in Europe. With a history older than Rome's foundation, Bergamo grew as a critical town in Mediaeval times and is now a bridge between Western and Eastern Europe: its airport is the Southern Europe hub for Ryanair and other low-cost airlines turning over 9 million passengers in 2012. The University of Bergamo is a State University with about 16,000 students (undergraduates and graduates) and more than 300 Ph.D. students. The number of students is increasing each year, with a 7% growth rate per year between 2001 and 2011. A staff of 656 members (331 professors & researchers, 95 assisting academic staff, 230 administrative and technical staff) provides a dynamic scientific and teaching environment open to innovations. The 7 Departments and the Research centers of the University of Bergamo are strictly intertwined in the town life. They are grouped in three campuses located in three different areas. The campus of Economics and Law, Campus of Humanities, Campus of Engineering. At present consisting of six Departments (Engineering - Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Communication Studies - Human and Social Sciences - Law - Letters and Philosophy - Management, Economics, and Quantitative Methods), Bergamo University offers a wide variety of opportunities for training and research through its 13 three-year degree courses, one five-year degree, and 15 two-year specialization courses in a variety of subjects ranging from Computer engineering, to Tourism management, from Business Administration and Management to Education sciences, from Psychology to Business law. A large choice is also offered as regards Research doctorates, first and second level Master's degree courses, courses aimed at specialization or certification, and refresher courses. In close collaboration with businesses in the Lombardy area, and keeping in mind the economic situation here, Bergamo University has set up training courses and research projects to satisfy the requirements of companies and local institutions, to guarantee a constant and necessary updating of the skills of professionals and managers. This is thanks to the many agreements reached, allowing the provision of stages and traineeships, both for students and researchers, often within the companies taking part in these schemes. The University of Bergamo, with the largest number of exchange study schemes abroad for both students and researchers, is one of the critical reference points at the European level for the teaching of foreign languages, and this facilitates the introduction of international students into its teaching programs thanks to the introduction of English language courses into many Research doctorate courses and Master's courses in the Engineering and Economics faculties. The "Centre plays a vital role for Italian for Foreigners: research, training and education" which offers foreigners courses of both Italian language and culture at various levels. The University of Bergamo is one of the 25 Italian universities selected by the Brazilian Government as a study and research destination to provide Brazilian students and researchers training within the consolidated international Networks, thus integrating the academic and research areas of interest in the Brazilian system. The University of Bergamo Library Services supplies back-up for all teaching activities, for study and research, making its resources and assistance available to satisfy all its users' information needs. Reading rooms offer quiet, comfortable study conditions; books and journals are mostly freely available on open shelving for immediate use and can also be taken out on loan or photocopied. Numerous connection points for students' lap-top computers allow on-line access to further resources. The University of Bergamo has taken part in the Marco Polo Project, intending to strengthen academic co-operation between Italy and the People's Republic of China regarding exchange schemes for students, undergraduates, and researchers involved stages. CRUI is going to set up two offices, one in China and one in Italy, to co-ordinate the operations referring to anyone interested in exchanges: students, undergraduates, researchers, those involved in stages, those universities taking part in the project, companies involved in the project, diplomatic representatives, relative ministries and so on.
  2. The International School of Bergamo was opened with a vision of providing international education in the Bergamo area. The development of this new venture was shared with educationalists and others experts from the International School of Milan. Committed to delivering high-quality educational programs, ISB strives to develop the intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world. At present, ISBergamo caters to children born in 2005 or after. Every year, the school opens subsequent classes, to provide a full international curriculum up to Grade 13. Our mission: To experience international education in English, from the first years of school, learning alongside classmates from all over the world. To become part of an open, multicultural, stimulating, and active community ready to succeed in an increasingly complex world. To access the highest standards in learning guaranteed by programs that are well established and that have a track record of excellent results. The International School of Bergamo is located in a modern building in the Eastern part of Bergamo, in a green and quiet environment. The area is rich in sporting facilities, including a modern football pitch located just next to the school as well as rugby fields and an athletics track at the end of the road. The sports program of the school can highly benefit from these facilities. All of our teachers are carefully selected from highly qualified candidates, many of whom have come to us from the international school circuit where they have lived and worked in a variety of foreign cultures. Some have stayed with us since the beginning, giving us overall stability, whereas our new teachers share their recent studies and experiences. Teachers work together on lesson planning to ensure that curriculum objectives are met taking into account the needs of each student to construct a long-term educational path.
