  1. The beauty of the local area is stunning and the school facilities are first class. The opportunities to thrive in music, sport, drama, art, technology, and the core academic subjects are many. There are regular trips to unique places and special events in school to develop compassion, teamwork, and leadership skills – all of these are hugely important in forming a well-rounded and balanced young person. We are renowned for our academic success and we work hard with all our pupils to ensure they reach their fullest intellectual capacity whilst also developing into kind, caring, and articulate young people, ready to make a positive contribution to the world. We are proud of our school traditions, which create a real sense of identity in all Anselmians. We are equally proud of our willingness to embrace change, adapting our curriculum to the needs of the world your children will inhabit as adults. Inspired by our motto, Esse Quam Videre, we encourage our pupils to be authentic, sincere, and true to themselves as individuals. We instill in our pupils a sense of purpose, both in their immediate endeavors and in their future direction in life. Our small class sizes ensure staff can embrace every pupil’s needs and personalize their learning. The extensive program of extra-curricular activities that we offer helps pupils to interact, explore and develop resilience through well-judged risks within a safe and supportive environment. For those who wish it, our boarding provision provides a further experience for pupils to learn to become more independent and self-reliant in a nurturing and caring community. The S. Anselm’s community of governors, staff, parents, and pupils are proud of our school and hope you will visit us to find out more about what we can offer your child. At S. Anselm’s our combination of tradition and informality engender a sense of partnership between teacher and pupil. We share the excitement of education and discovery, encouraging method and perseverance so that children experience the satisfaction of taking responsibility for their learning and their achievements. S. Anselm’s School aims: To encourage individuality, creativity, perseverance, and tolerance To develop inquisitive thinking, with a love of learning where independent thought is celebrated To foster in every child, a clear understanding of themselves and what they can contribute to society To help pupils recognize strengths in others and to understand how they are different. 6. St. Anselm's Abbey School, where students are known, respected, and cared for by faculty, staff, and peers were exploring ideas and loving learning are the norm where contentment and challenge walk hand-in-hand where leadership and extracurricular opportunities abound and where the presence of the Benedictine monastic community stamps a profound and lasting influence on the educational experience of our young scholars. At St. Anselm's, a Roman Catholic, independent School for talented, motivated, and inquisitive young men in grades 6-12, each student is a valued and integral part of a joyful and inspiring campus. In this enclave, he can find pitch-perfect harmony in serving others while walking, with utter confidence, alongside the beam of light God intends for him to discover, explore, and, ultimately, pursue. An ever-inclusive community in the spirit of Saint Benedict, we welcome and respect students of all faiths, races, nationalities, and circumstances. Centered in equal and complementary parts around a rigorous classical education (truly unparalleled city-wide) and the rich heritage of the 1,500-year-old Benedictine educational tradition, St. Anselm's has been shepherding and shaping academically gifted boys who are eager to work to their capacity for over 75 years now. Coming of age as a member of the St. Anselm's student body means that a boy will be exposed to a superior academic program that encourages balance in mind, body, and spirit. While the School's track record of strong AP participation and results, high levels of National Merit recognition, and impressive college matriculation lists are all elements of St. Anselm's experience of which we are rightly proud. In part known for, it is on the intangible or "unmeasurable" side of the ledger where our students shine all the more brightly, for every St. Anselm's graduate, to a man, is thoughtful, kind, reflective, of good cheer, inventive, team-centered, generous, determined, and independent. Founded in 1942, we remain committed to the traditional view that the essential discipline is imposed by a demanding and enriching curriculum, focused on a balanced and thorough exposure to the major academic disciplines. Over these past 75 years, our curriculum has been dramatically expanded to offer more science, technology, language, music, and fine arts to meet our student body's diverse needs and interests. Yet we still have a very challenging educational program designed for students of above-average abilities. St. Anselm's Abbey School gives academically gifted young men a rigorous classical education in a Benedictine monastery's sacred space. We aim to educate our students to become moral persons, intellectually, and spiritually prepared for life in an ever-changing world. A monastic school is an exercise in the community. We try to help every student understand his importance and dignity as a member of this community. Our code of behavior is a firm one but that at the same time possesses a certain Benedictine gentleness. We hope that we may introduce to our young men something of the spirit of monastic life in the twenty-first century, to put them in touch with the tradition of dedication, service, prayer, and scholarship that has been the bedrock of Benedictine stability for the last 1,500 years. As an educational institution, we try to foster Saint Benedict's notion of ora et labora, prayer, and work, as the essential means of achieving peace and understanding. We believe that the Rule of Saint Benedict is an essential and enduring educational text that has successfully guided many schools and universities across the vast chasm of time, from the ancient world of the sixth century to the dawn of the twenty-first. The concepts of stability, perseverance, mutual support, hard work, and prayer presented in the Rule have withstood the real test of time. Our patron, Saint Anselm, was Archbishop of Canterbury, the foremost educator of his day, and is considered the Father of Scholasticism. At St. Anselm's Abbey School, we continue to emulate his drive for academic excellence. Anselm understood the monastic charism to be provocative and empowering. In a Benedictine school, one finds the same potent energy. This peculiarly transformative power allows a student to develop his talents in a community free from conflict through this Pax in Sapientia. A monastic school allows one to seek a life of truth in a fraternity of integrity as the minds of students, teachers, and monks intertwine. Our monastic community is a fraternity, a group of people linked by a common purpose. But Benedict offers a shrewd twist on the concept he believed that a well-run "school of the Lord's service" should be something elite, an institution that not everyone can join. These dual concepts of "eliteness" and "fraternity" have been essential keys to the Benedictines' staying power and continuing success over the centuries. In the context of our community, the terms elite and fraternity do not convey negative images of snobbery and exclusivity, but they do contain very positive and powerful organizational lessons. Likewise, students in a monastic school belong to an elite communal brotherhood. They choose to be focused and use the talents that God has given them—not just for themselves, but for the benefit of those around them. And our students choose daily to begin anew, to start over now and forever—to develop the gifts of their minds, bodies, and spirits to their full strengths.

  8. St Anselm’s Catholic School is set within an oasis of calm, amidst the busy streets of Tooting. We are a small, nurturing school that focuses on the development of the whole child. We expect high standards of work and behavior from all members of our school community and we measure success in terms of the impact we have on our pupils’ academic, personal, and spiritual development and our links to the wider community. We believe that good communication between home and school is a key aspect of successful learning. As a Catholic school, we focus on supporting the children to find out who they are in terms of who God made them to be and to instill a sense of belonging through their faith. Our school motto, ‘We are called to serve, to walk humbly with God’, helps the children to focus on the needs of others and to build a caring and loving community within the school. The pupils are immensely proud of their school and they leave here ready for the challenges that lie ahead. Our Mission Statement: As a Catholic school and community, we share a common vision where Christ is at the center of all our work. Our school policies embody principles of love, service, respect, and reconciliation. We strive to recognize the dignity of each member of our school community and to nurture and challenge our pupils to be lifelong learners. Our Statement on Equality: At St Anselm’s School, we are committed to equality for all our pupils and employees. We welcome our duty under the Equality Act 2010 to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations. All aspects of our school life are centered on our School Mission Statement. Here are some of the ways we achieve this: Together with the school’s governing body, the Senior Leadership Team has the responsibility for ensuring equality for all members of our school community. We have clear procedures for dealing with prejudice and bullying incidents. We regularly use pupil data to gather information on pupil ethnicity and gender. We use assessment data to ascertain whether there are any significant differences in attainment between girls and boys and between pupils of different ethnic backgrounds. We review pupil support to meet all pupils' needs. We regularly review our statement on equality. The school has designed its curriculum to meet current government requirements with English, Maths, Science, and ICT as the core subjects and History, Geography, PE, Art & Design, Music and Design & Technology as the foundation subjects. In addition, provision is made for Religious Education for all pupils at this school following its fundamental Catholic ethos, legal foundation, and mission statement. Curriculum subjects are taught largely within class groups with support and extension for pupils identified through target setting and teacher assessment. The school's governing body annually agrees on the level of staff required to deliver the curriculum and to match financial resources. This is based on the needs of pupils within each year group and also the short and long-term targets set in the annual School Development Plan. The new curriculum is being taught in all year groups but assessments in Year 2 and 6 are still being done against National Curriculum levels. All teachers have attended Wandsworth courses on assessment in English and Maths and these continue in the current year providing opportunities to liaise with colleagues from other schools, comparing and moderating work as we all become more confident assessing the New Curriculum objectives. We are in a transitional stage this year while we adapt to the expectations of, and changes in the content of the New Curriculum, and assessment is a key part of the school development plan. We have previously used Classroom Monitor to track formative assessment in Maths, English, and Science and this bank of information has been transferred to new stages which we are now using to track the New Curriculum objectives. This gives us an indication of where the children are within Stages (Stage 5 is for Year 5). It indicates whether a child is beginning, developing, secure, or exceeding within the stage. Some problems with this need further discussion within the school and with our Wandsworth colleagues. For example, the statements for reading and writing sometimes are the same for two consecutive year groups and fail to show progression. View full school
