Turku Academy is a Swedish-speaking multidisciplinary university that operates in two main centers, Turku and Vaasa. Turku University offers both undergraduate and graduate studies and extensive research opportunities to some 7000 students. Established 100 years ago, Åbo Akademi University operates currently in Turku and Vaasa. Our leading principles include diversity, openness, courage, sustainability, and participation. In our capacity as the only Swedish-speaking university in Finland, we offer a wide range of educational options. We also research many fields, and our particular focus areas are minority research, drug development, diagnostics, molecular process and material technology, and the sea. We have grown into an internationally acknowledged research university during our first century with a unique role as the bridge between the university communities in Finland and the other Nordic countries. Åbo Akademi University's activities are characterized by our responsibilities related to Swedish-speaking Finland and our international atmosphere. We are a regular minority university with grand ambitions regarding education and research, and we have set high standards for boundary-crossing (co-)operation. We have 5,500 undergraduate students in our campus towns of Turku and Vaasa altogether. We also have 780 postgraduate students. Each year, we award around 500 Master's degrees and 75 Doctor's degrees. Of our total of 1,100 employees, 650 work in teaching and research. Other jobs are related to, for example, the Centre for Lifelong Learning, the Library, or the different university services. Annual budget. Revenues for 2018 total 98.3 million euros, of which approx. 60% represent State funding, and the remaining part is raised as external financing.
