St. Agnes Academy was founded in 1905. Rooted in the Dominican tradition, St. Agnes Academy provides a Catholic college preparatory education that encourages young women to develop intellectual curiosity, work for social justice, and act with integrity and compassion.
At St. Agnes, we are driven and energized by our bold vision to provide a transformational experience for Houston's young women, one where they develop tools and voices to change the world. Over the past 109 years, it has taken the time, talent, vision, dedication, creativity, and generosity of many to provide a rich environment that turns this lofty vision into a reality.
As we chart the course for our bright future, it is once again time to improve our campus home. The Student Life Center is the most ambitious initiative in the history of the school. While we have many campus needs and wants, the Board of Directors and our community have strategically identified the following priorities for our next project.
The curriculum of St. Agnes Academy revolves around core subject areas of theology, English, mathematics, science, history/social science, and world languages. The elective program offers students the opportunity to pursue particular interest areas or go into greater depth in the core subjects. All courses are evaluated continuously and changed (as appropriate) to meet the students' needs within today's society. They are designed with the development of capable, well-rounded women in mind. Upon completion of a St. Agnes education, a graduate will embody the following:
- Witnesses Gospel values and live veritas through word and deed
- Recognizes her Dominican heritage and incorporates prayer into her daily life
- Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and a dedication to life-long learning
- Embraces diversity and champions the marginalized in society
- Confidently assumes personal leadership and acts with integrity and compassion
- Recognizes her interconnectedness with Earth and embraces her responsibilities for the children of all species
- Celebrates life in a joyful, optimistic, and productive manner
- Has a deep commitment to social justice and making a difference in the world.
Campus ministry is an essential part of everyday life at St. Agnes Academy. Campus ministry supports and carries out our school's mission by fostering the Dominican Pillars of Prayer, Study, Community, and Preaching. Each person at St. Agnes plays an integral role in carrying out the mission of St. Agnes Academy and ministering to one another. Through retreats, prayer experiences, service projects, and other celebrations of our Dominican Heritage, Campus Ministry seeks to build a strong community of faith within SAA, igniting a passion for the love of God and neighbor that is tangible through the halls of St. Agnes, in the greater Houston community and the world.
For more than 100 years, St. Agnes has empowered young women to develop intellectual curiosity, work for social justice, and act with integrity and compassion. Academy women are leaders and are making a difference in the world today. Since our early years on Fannin Street, we have been blessed with faithful partners like you who support our mission. Your generous gifts continue to keep our doors open, our tuition low, provide for campus improvement projects, enable professional training and education for our teachers and staff, and give us the ability to award student scholarships so that more young women can attend the Academy in our second century and beyond.
